State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Deputy Governor Muhammad Ali Khan has said the central bank is working to build a trusted and accountable digital financial ecosystem.
Ali made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the fourth Pakistan Fintech Forum (PFF IV) in Karachi on September 2, 2026.
He said the SBP wants to expand digital access while strengthening trust and accountability. The central bank also aims to turn digital financial services into meaningful economic activity.
The Pakistan Fintech Network (PFN) hosted the forum. The event focused on the next phase of Pakistan’s evolving digital financial sector.
The forum carried the theme “Building the Financial Future: Scale, Trust & Inclusion.”
Discussions covered several key areas of digital finance. These included digital banking, access to credit, digital payments and financial inclusion.
Participants also discussed regulation and digital infrastructure. Emerging technologies and sustainable payment models also featured prominently.

Ali said the SBP remains focused on creating a financial environment that can support responsible digital growth.
Syed Nadeem Hussain, Chairman of the Pakistan Fintech Network, opened the forum.
He said Pakistan’s fintech sector has moved beyond the early adoption phase. The industry now needs to focus on sustainable and inclusive growth.
Nadeem called for clearer regulations and stronger digital infrastructure. He also stressed the need for greater cooperation between banks and fintech companies.
He said stronger collaboration could help expand access to credit. It could also allow financial institutions to serve more customers at scale.
The forum brought together senior officials from the financial and technology sectors.
Participants included Imtiaz Haider, Commissioner at the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). Dr. Sohail Munir, Chairperson of the Pakistan Digital Authority, also attended.
Bilal Bin Saqib, Chairman of the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority, joined the discussions. Ahson Saeed, CEO of Raast Payments Pakistan, also participated.
Senior representatives from the SBP and executives from banking, fintech, payments, technology and investment companies attended the event.
The discussions also examined how technology and financial data can expand access to financial services.
Participants highlighted the importance of resilient digital infrastructure. They also discussed ways to strengthen consumer trust in digital financial services.
The forum highlighted the growing role of fintech in Pakistan’s financial sector.
Speakers and industry leaders stressed that responsible digital expansion will require stronger regulation, reliable infrastructure and continued cooperation across the financial ecosystem.
