Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain has said that workers’ welfare is essential for Pakistan’s prosperity.
He made the remarks while addressing the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Labour Complex Phase-II in Taxila. He said the government prioritises workers’ rights, family welfare and quality education for their children.
“Respect for the worker is respect for Pakistan. When labourers prosper, Pakistan prospers,” the minister said.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain said the government had approved Rs1.106 billion for Labour Complex Phase-II. He added that authorities aimed to complete the project within 24 months, preferably ahead of schedule.

The project includes several facilities for workers’ families. These include high schools for boys and girls, a junior primary school, a mosque and a mini market.
The minister directed the relevant authorities to maintain construction quality and transparency. He also called for timely completion of the project.
The minister said authorities had already constructed 504 flats at Labour Complex Taxila. The project cost Rs1.314 billion.
Of these flats, 70 have been earmarked for families of martyrs from Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF), Wah Cantt.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain said the government wanted to hand over the completed flats to deserving labour families as soon as possible.
He added that officials were coordinating with relevant ministries and authorities to complete the required formalities. The process would allow eligible families to receive their keys.
The minister expressed hope that progress would continue in the coming weeks. He said authorities should avoid further delays in handing over the flats.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain described politics as a form of worship. He said serving people should remain the main purpose of holding public office.
He urged politicians to act on public welfare whenever opportunities arise. They should not wait for another position or ministry to address people’s problems.
“Power is not permanent. Therefore, whenever an opportunity to serve the people is available, it should not be wasted,” he said.
The minister added that solving even one deserving person’s problem was a meaningful achievement. He said public representatives should work with sincerity and dedication.
Minister of State for Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel Ahmed Malik attended the ceremony. Other participants included MPA Mohsin Ayub Khan, former MPA Haji Malik Umar Farooq and Workers Welfare Fund Secretary Zulfiqar Ahmed.
Political representatives, board members, senior officials and social sector figures also attended the event.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain reiterated that improving workers’ living conditions would contribute to Pakistan’s overall prosperity.
