Students at NED University planted trees on campus on Monday, August 31, as part of an initiative organised by Treow Carbon Solutions with support from Meezan Bank.

The programme goes beyond a traditional one-day plantation drive. Students have pledged to care for and monitor the trees throughout their time at the university.

As a result, they will be able to observe the trees’ growth and development until their graduation.

“Planting a tree is only the beginning,” said Mehboob Alam, Head of MEP-Engineering, Sustainability-CSR and HSE at Meezan Bank.

He said the real value of plantation comes from the responsibility that follows. According to Alam, involving students in caring for the trees can build a stronger sense of ownership and environmental responsibility.

Focus on Long-Term Tree Survival

Treow Carbon Solutions worked with NED University to plan the plantation activity and develop a structured approach to long-term care.

The organisation focused on several factors that can improve tree survival. These include selecting suitable species, preparing the soil, using correct planting methods, providing adequate water and conducting regular monitoring.

Mudabbir Maajid, Co-founder of Treow Carbon Solutions, said the trees would serve as lasting reminders of the students’ university years.

“For the students, these trees are a lasting reminder of their time at NED,” Maajid said.

He added that the initiative aims to help students see how their continued care contributes to a greener university campus.

Sustainability Through Shared Responsibility

The collaboration between NED University, Treow Carbon Solutions, Meezan Bank and participating students highlights the importance of shared responsibility in environmental initiatives.

Rather than limiting sustainability efforts to a single plantation day, the programme creates an ongoing commitment to tree care and monitoring.
