Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi has directed Deputy Commissioners to intensify the Karachi Price Control campaign by enforcing official prices of essential commodities and removing roadside encroachments to improve traffic flow and ensure consumers receive goods at government-approved rates.

The commissioner chaired a meeting of Deputy Commissioners to review ongoing campaigns on price control, anti-encroachment operations, the anti-polio drive, and other public welfare initiatives that concluded on Sunday.

The meeting discussed measures to curb profiteering, remove roadside encroachments, prevent the sale of unsafe gas cylinders, and strengthen public service delivery across the city.

Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Iqra Jannat presented a review of the anti-polio campaign, actions taken against profiteers, and other administrative initiatives. Assistant Commissioner Revenue Sajjad Abro briefed participants on ongoing anti-encroachment operations and future planning, while Assistant Commissioner General Waqas Abbasi outlined the administration’s response to complaints received from citizens.

All Assistant Commissioners joined the meeting via video link and updated the commissioner on the performance of their respective subdivisions.

The meeting also reviewed measures to eliminate roadside encroachments and stop the sale of unsafe gas cylinders. Officials agreed to further strengthen enforcement in both areas.

Commissioner Naqvi said roadside encroachments are contributing to traffic congestion across Karachi. He instructed Deputy Commissioners to accelerate anti-encroachment operations and ensure strict implementation of official prices for essential commodities.

Officials informed the meeting that the anti-polio campaign, conducted from 6 to 12 July, achieved 94% of its target of vaccinating 2.5 million children across Karachi.

The meeting was also told that authorities took action against 362 profiteers during the same period. Officials imposed fines totalling Rs2,617,500 after inspecting prices at 2,111 locations across the city.

As part of the enforcement campaign, authorities sealed 20 shops, including two in Central District, one in Korangi District, and 17 in South District.

District-wise enforcement showed that Central District fined 55 profiteers Rs379,000, East District fined 40 profiteers Rs373,000, Keamari District fined 50 profiteers Rs199,500, Korangi District fined 59 profiteers Rs716,000, Malir District fined 32 profiteers Rs73,000, South District fined 115 profiteers Rs860,000, and West District fined 11 profiteers Rs17,000.
