K-Electric has urged Karachi residents to prioritise safety as the monsoon season begins, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasting rainfall across the city. The utility advised people to remain vigilant, especially in areas affected by waterlogging, while its operational teams continue to monitor weather conditions and the electricity network.

K-Electric said its teams remain on high alert through centralised monitoring of weather patterns and the city’s power supply. The company’s management is also coordinating closely with civic agencies and the city administration to ensure a timely response as weather conditions change.

The utility acknowledged the challenges heavy rainfall creates for residents and said public safety remains its highest priority during the monsoon season.

Ahead of the rains, K-Electric completed preventive maintenance across its feeder network to improve the reliability of electricity supply. The company also carried out maintenance work at all grid stations, replacing faulty connectors and busbars to strengthen the stability of its generation and transmission systems.

K-Electric said it invested more than PKR 1.2 billion in safety improvement projects to strengthen the resilience of its distribution network. The work included replacing more than 1,100 electricity poles, upgrading several PMT structures, earthing over 2,000 service brackets, and replacing meters and busbars in 241 multi-storey buildings.

The utility also converted five kilometres of overhead power lines into underground infrastructure, installed insulators on 3,997 pole stay units, and replaced circuit breakers and distribution boards at more than 250 PMTs.

K-Electric spokesperson Imran Rana urged residents to keep a safe distance from electricity infrastructure, including power poles, consumer service brackets, electricity meters, and broken or tangled electricity and internet cables, particularly in flooded areas.

He said public safety depends on both operational preparedness and responsible public behaviour during the monsoon season. He added that close coordination between utility companies and civic authorities remains essential to minimise risks and maintain reliable services.

Rana also advised residents to exercise extra caution inside their homes by avoiding contact with electrical switches or wires that may have been exposed to rainwater. He urged citizens to report electricity-related emergencies immediately so response teams can take prompt action.

K-Electric said customers can report electricity safety emergencies through its 118 call centre. Consumers can also register power supply complaints through the KE website, KE Live App, WhatsApp service, and the company’s official social media platforms.
