Islamabad Memorandum commitments have been suspended by Iran after Tehran accused the United States of violating the Pakistan-mediated ceasefire agreement, according to Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi.

Speaking to Fars News Agency, Gharibabadi said Iran had stopped implementing the commitments outlined in the memorandum because the United States had failed to fulfil its obligations.

“The United States violated all of its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum and suspended them. We have also suspended our commitments and are no longer implementing them,” Gharibabadi said.

He added that Iran’s immediate priority is defending the country amid the ongoing conflict.

His remarks followed comments by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who said Iran would defend “every inch” of its territory and respond firmly to what he described as US aggression.

Araghchi also condemned recent US airstrikes, saying attacks that killed civilians would not go unanswered.

Pakistan brokered the Islamabad Memorandum, which both countries signed on 17 June 2026. The agreement aimed to establish a ceasefire and create a framework for negotiations toward a permanent truce.

Under the memorandum, both sides agreed to avoid military attacks while diplomatic talks continued.

Following the agreement, US and Iranian officials held direct negotiations in Switzerland before technical discussions took place in Doha, Qatar.

However, fighting resumed before a planned third round of talks in Islamabad. Both Washington and Tehran accused each other of breaching the agreement.

Iranian authorities said recent US strikes on several locations across the country killed more than 30 civilians and injured dozens of others.

In response, Iran claimed it carried out attacks on US military facilities in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and a US base in Saudi Arabia.

The latest developments further weaken diplomatic efforts to end the conflict and raise concerns about a broader escalation across the Middle East.
