Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court over the alleged non-compliance with its order concerning Imran Khan and his transfer to a hospital.

PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja reached the Supreme Court on Saturday to submit the petition. Imran’s sister Uzma Khan and lawyer Uzair Bhandari also filed the plea.

The petition seeks contempt proceedings against officials accused of violating the court’s directions. It also asks the Supreme Court to issue show-cause notices and summon the respondents for personal appearance.

PTI Challenges Imran’s Hospital Transfer

The petition seeks Imran Khan’s immediate transfer to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad. It also asks for his medical examination at the private facility.

PTI has requested the appointment of a court officer or local commission to monitor implementation of the Supreme Court’s order.

The petition names Islamabad Chief Commissioner Sohail Ashraf, the interior secretary, the inspector general of prisons and a jail superintendent as respondents.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar have also been named in the plea.

Four Alleged Violations Cited

The petition identifies four alleged violations of the Supreme Court’s directions.

First, PTI claims authorities failed to transfer Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital.

Second, it alleges that officials failed to constitute a medical board.

Third, the party says authorities did not arrange an examination by the required medical board.

Fourth, it alleges that Dr Faisal Sultan was not included in the medical board.

PTI also rejected the security situation as a justification for not transferring Imran to Shifa.

Imran Taken to PIMS for Examination

The legal challenge followed Imran Khan’s transfer to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in the early hours of Friday.

Doctors examined the former prime minister at the government-run hospital and later declared him medically fit. He was subsequently returned to Adiala Jail.

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the government chose PIMS because of security concerns involving PTI workers outside the facility and along the route to Shifa International Hospital.

Tarar later said doctors from Al Shifa Hospital also participated in the examination at PIMS. Imran’s sister Uzma was present during the medical examination.

PTI Questions Government’s Position

The petition refers to statements made by government officials after the Supreme Court issued its order.

According to the plea, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry initially discussed implementation of the order. The law minister later announced that the government would file a review petition.

The inspector general of prisons also stated that Imran could only be transferred to a government hospital, according to the petition.

The government subsequently filed a review petition. The plea was later returned after an objection that the required paper books had not been completed.

PTI Cites Earlier Contempt Cases

The petition refers to Supreme Court judgments in the Adnan A. Khawaja and Yousuf Raza Gilani cases.

PTI argues that these cases establish responsibility for complying with court orders at the level of the chief executive.

The party says the same legal principle should apply to the current dispute over Imran’s hospital transfer.

Speaking about the timing of the petition, Salman Akram Raja said filing it on Saturday would allow the matter to be taken up during the court’s upcoming working days.

He rejected suggestions that filing the petition on another day would have resulted in an immediate hearing.

Supreme Court Case Adjourned Until September 16

The Supreme Court has adjourned the main case until September 16.

The court had previously ordered that Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for treatment for several days. It also directed the government to arrange weekly meetings between Imran and his family.

The Islamabad chief commissioner separately challenged the order. The petition argues that transferring a convicted prisoner to a private hospital conflicts with the Pakistan Prison Rules, 1978.

The legal dispute follows a medical board report and an Adiala Jail superintendent’s report. Both reports recommended more frequent meetings between Imran and his immediate family.

The recommendations were linked to concerns about managing his blood pressure and anxiety.

Opposition Alliance Adds Political Pressure

The controversy comes as opposition parties move towards greater coordination in Parliament.

Opposition leaders agreed on Friday night to form a joint opposition alliance. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said the alliance would seek a stronger role amid law-and-order concerns and challenges facing the government.

National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai warned that the opposition could approach international courts if necessary.

Salman Akram Raja said opposition parties were currently uniting inside Parliament. He added that a later phase could take their political campaign to the streets.

The contempt petition now places Imran Khan’s hospital transfer dispute before the Supreme Court again, with PTI seeking enforcement of the court’s earlier directions.
