KARACHI: Reliable international payment systems can strengthen Pakistan’s small and medium-sized businesses as more technology firms and digital exporters enter global markets, according to Payoneer.
Pakistan’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector continued to expand during 2025-26. According to the Pakistan Economic Survey, ICT export remittances increased 19.7% year on year and generated a trade surplus of $2.91 billion.
The number of IT and IT-enabled services companies registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan also increased during the period.
As Pakistani technology companies, digital agencies, e-commerce sellers and software businesses expand overseas, access to dependable cross-border payments has become increasingly important.
Payoneer said its financial infrastructure allows eligible Pakistani businesses to receive payments in major currencies, send payment requests, manage funds and pay international suppliers and contractors.
The company also offers integrations with local banks and financial institutions. These links allow businesses to transfer their international earnings into Pakistan through local withdrawals.

Payoneer said stronger payment systems could also benefit Pakistan’s wider economy.
Reliable cross-border payments can encourage businesses to receive export earnings through formal channels. They can also improve cash flow for small and medium-sized businesses and make international trade easier to manage.
“Pakistan’s businesses have the capabilities, ambition and talent to compete globally,” said Nagesh Devata, SVP and Head of APAC at Payoneer.
He said international expansion also requires financial infrastructure that can keep pace with businesses.
Devata added that simplifying international payments can help turn global sales into more predictable working capital and support long-term growth.
The growth of Pakistan’s digital economy is creating new opportunities for smaller businesses to sell services and products overseas.
Technology companies, freelancers, e-commerce businesses and software exporters increasingly depend on international customers.
For these businesses, payment access remains an important part of managing overseas revenue, supplier costs and day-to-day operations.
Payoneer said improving financial connectivity could help more Pakistani businesses participate in global trade while supporting foreign exchange inflows and formal export receipts.
