Inter Milan Beat Bologna to Extend Serie A Lead as Roma Rise and Napoli Stumble

Inter Milan strengthened their position at the top of Serie A on Saturday with a 3-1 comeback victory over Bologna. Meanwhile, Roma climbed to second place with a 2-0 win over Genoa, while Napoli suffered a shock 1-0 defeat against Venezia.

Inter moved to 19 points, although Lazio could draw level with the leaders if they defeat Juventus in Turin on Sunday.

Roma’s victory at the Stadio Olimpico took them to within two points of the summit. Napoli, meanwhile, slipped to ninth place, nine points behind the league leaders.

Inter Respond with Comeback Victory

Inter faced criticism after a disappointing midweek Champions League defeat to Club Brugge. However, they recovered with an important win ahead of Wednesday’s meeting with Shakhtar Donetsk.

“Our strength is the group and the quality of the players,” Inter assistant coach Aleksandar Kolarov told DAZN.

“We don’t have anything to prove to anyone except ourselves. We want to be more intense with and without the ball.”

Bologna made a bright start and took the lead after 10 minutes through Tommaso Pobega. The midfielder later struck the crossbar with a powerful effort.

Inter responded through Marcus Thuram, who rose to head home the equaliser.

The hosts were without injured captain Lautaro Martinez, who is expected to miss a month of action. However, their substitutes made the difference in the second half.

Carlos Augusto scored within a minute of entering the game. He then set up fellow substitute Ange-Yoan Bonny late on to complete the 3-1 victory.

Roma Bounce Back as Castro Scores

Roma responded to their dramatic Champions League defeat against Real Madrid with a convincing 2-0 win over Genoa.

The Italian side had surrendered a 3-1 lead before losing 4-3 in the closing minutes of their midweek European clash. This time, they showed greater composure to secure all three points.

Roma were without suspended top scorer Donyell Malen and several injured players. However, their young talents stepped up with important contributions.

Santiago Castro opened the scoring after 50 minutes with an audacious flick in a crowded penalty area. Teenage wing-back Emanuele Lulli then sealed the win with a close-range finish.

Both teams had struck the woodwork during the first half before Roma found their breakthrough.

Genoa coach Daniele De Rossi received a warm reception from the home crowd. The former Roma player and coach could not prevent Gian Piero Gasperini from recording the 300th Serie A victory of his managerial career.

The result lifted Roma into second place, two points behind Inter.

Nicola Makes Winning Start as Venezia Shock Napoli

Venezia produced one of the weekend’s biggest surprises by defeating Napoli 1-0 in Davide Nicola’s first match in charge.

Nicola, known for his work with teams fighting relegation, took over during the week after Giovanni Stroppa was dismissed. Venezia had failed to earn a point in their opening six league matches.

His arrival brought an immediate change in fortunes. Akor Adams scored early in the second half to secure Venezia’s first Serie A victory over Napoli since 1942.

Napoli coach Massimiliano Allegri introduced rested stars Rasmus Hojlund and Kevin De Bruyne as his team searched for an equaliser.

Hojlund soon won a penalty, giving Napoli a chance to rescue a point. However, Venezia goalkeeper Filip Stankovic saved De Bruyne’s spot-kick.

Stankovic then produced several impressive saves in the closing stages as Napoli pushed forward without success.

The defeat followed Napoli’s midweek Champions League loss to Villarreal. It also marked the club’s first run of five defeats in their opening nine matches across all competitions in 25 years.

Napoli will now turn their attention to Tuesday’s Champions League match against Bodo/Glimt.

“In football you get moments like this and there is only one way out: keep working seriously and professionally, be more focused and turn this disappointment into anger,” Allegri told a press conference.

“It’s up to us to turn this situation around, starting with the Champions League.”

Napoli remain ninth with 10 points, while Venezia sit bottom of the table with three points.
