The Disco Bakery Flyover project has sparked controversy before construction begins, with officials raising concerns over its impact on the planned K-IV water pipeline and other ongoing infrastructure works in Karachi.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab recently announced that construction would begin on August 14 and finish within 90 days.

However, officials and residents have questioned the timing of the project. They argue that authorities should complete the K-IV pipeline before building the flyover.

Officials involved in the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP) have reportedly expressed reservations about the plan.

According to officials, a 96-inch K-IV (R-2) water pipeline will pass through the same corridor where the flyover is proposed.

They said workers will lay the pipeline from Abul Hassan Isphahani Road to Disco Bakery and then continue towards Gulshan Chowrangi.

The project will require road excavation to a depth of six to eight feet. Workers will also need additional space on both sides of the route, affecting the entire corridor.

Officials questioned the feasibility of constructing the flyover before completing the pipeline project.

They warned that future excavation could affect the flyover’s structure and create additional traffic problems for commuters.

Sources said officials from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and the Karachi Water Corporation will hold a meeting to review the project.

The meeting will focus on resolving technical concerns and assessing possible challenges before construction begins.
