KARACHI, August 24, 2026: The Sindh government has officially launched the Sindh Esports Championship 2026, with more than 1,000 teams from across the province taking part. The opening ceremony was held at Liaquat Library in Karachi.

Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Sindh Sports Secretary Munawar Ali Mahesar attended the ceremony as chief guests. Senior officials, lawmakers, sponsors and representatives from the esports community also participated.

Esports Platform for Sindh’s Youth

Speaking at the ceremony, Nasir  Shah said empowering young people remains a key part of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision.

He described the championship as an important opportunity for young people to showcase their abilities. He said the Sindh government was supporting youth in traditional sports and emerging fields such as technology and esports.

The minister said the Nexora initiative, titled “The Next Era of Champions,” would provide young gamers with a professional platform.

He said esports could become an important way to highlight the skills of young people. It could also connect them with new opportunities in the digital economy.

Rs3 Million Prize Pool

More than 1,000 teams are competing in the championship. The winners will share a total prize pool of Rs3 million.

The competition includes popular titles such as PUBG Mobile, Tekken 8 and FC 27. The event brings gamers from across Sindh together on one platform.

Qualifying rounds will take place at different universities in Karachi. The semi-finals will be held at prominent shopping malls across the city.

The grand final is scheduled for the first week of October at the Karachi Expo Centre.

Government Expands Sports Opportunities

Nasir Shah said the Sindh government was continuing to improve sports facilities and infrastructure across the province.

He said the Sports Department was organising sporting events throughout the year. Talent-hunt programmes are also being conducted at the grassroots level.

The minister said these initiatives aim to identify talented athletes and provide them with opportunities to develop their skills.

He credited Sindh Sports Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Khan Mahar for supporting sports activities across the province.

Nasir Shah also praised the Sports Department, Nexora team, universities, sponsors, partners and young gamers. He said collective efforts could create stronger platforms for emerging talent.

24 Athletes Receive Shields

The ceremony also recognised 24 boxers, jujitsu players and coaches for their performances at national-level championships.

Nasir Shah said talented athletes from Sindh had brought recognition to the province at national and international competitions.

He said recognising athletes could encourage more young people to participate in sports.

The minister reiterated that the Sindh government would continue creating opportunities for young people in sports, technology and other emerging fields.
