Qatari Mediators Return to Tehran as US-Iran Peace Efforts Continue

Qatari mediators returned to Tehran on Friday as part of ongoing efforts to secure an agreement between the United States and Iran, an official briefed on the negotiations told Reuters.

The official said Qatar’s mediation efforts had been coordinated with Washington.

Qatar presented a draft peace plan to Iran on Sunday, according to an official familiar with the negotiations. However, a senior Iranian official rejected the proposals as unacceptable and said Tehran would maintain its position on nuclear issues.

The two sides remain divided over the sequence of negotiations. Washington wants nuclear issues included from the outset, while Tehran insists that the United States must first end its blockade of Iranian ports and lift sanctions on the country’s oil exports.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Wednesday that Tehran remained in close contact with intermediaries. He said Iran was reviewing ideas that could help implement its own seven-day proposal to end the war in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Vice President JD Vance’s outreach to Iran concerned medical supplies. His remarks followed US media reports linking the contact to efforts to revive peace negotiations.
