PIA Unveils New Cabin Crew Uniforms Designed by HSY, Launch Set for October 31

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has unveiled its new cabin crew uniform collection. Renowned Pakistani couturier Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, popularly known as HSY, designed the collection.

The new uniforms blend Pakistan’s cultural heritage with contemporary fashion. They also reflect the airline’s focus on hospitality, passenger comfort and crew confidence.

As part of its ongoing transformation, PIA aims to refresh its onboard experience. The initiative also seeks to preserve the national carrier’s longstanding connection with the fashion industry.

PIA Builds on Its Fashion Legacy

PIA has a rich history of collaborating with internationally recognised designers. These partnerships have helped shape its distinctive cabin crew identity over the decades.

French designer Pierre Cardin created the airline’s pioneering A-line tunic and hood in 1966. His designs helped establish PIA as a recognised name in aviation fashion.

During the 1970s, Sir Hardy Amies brought his tailoring expertise to the airline’s uniforms. He was the royal couturier to Queen Elizabeth II.

Pakistani designer Nomi Ansari later contributed to PIA’s uniform identity for 12 years, according to the airline. Now, HSY is bringing a contemporary approach to this heritage.

HSY Celebrates Pakistani Pride

HSY is among Pakistan’s most prominent fashion designers. His work spans couture, celebrity styling and international fashion platforms.

The designer described the project as an opportunity to represent Pakistan’s identity and hospitality worldwide.

“Designing for our national flag carrier is about capturing our collective pride and the genuine warmth of Pakistani hospitality,” Hassan Sheheryar Yasin said.

He added that the collection aims to help crew members feel confident and comfortable while representing Pakistan internationally.

“We wanted uniforms that our crew feel extraordinarily confident and comfortable apparel that respect our heritage, reflect modern fashion, and tell our story beautifully in every airport across the globe,” he said.

Comfort Shapes the New Collection

PIA said comfort and functionality were central to the design process. The uniforms were developed to meet the demands of long-haul flights and cabin crew duties.

Breathable fabrics and ergonomic construction feature throughout the collection. Structured tailoring adds a polished appearance while supporting ease of movement.

The colour palette and detailing draw inspiration from Pakistani craftsmanship. These cultural elements are balanced with the practical requirements of airline operations.

The final designs emerged from a competitive showcase in Karachi. Ten leading Pakistani fashion designers presented their concepts to a jury of fashion professionals and industry representatives.

Uniforms to Debut on October 31

Passengers will soon see the new collection in service. PIA has scheduled its official debut for October 31, 2026.

The uniforms are set to appear aboard the airline’s inaugural Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner flight from London to Islamabad.

According to the airline, the launch represents a fresh chapter focused on comfort, sophistication and national pride. PIA hopes the refreshed look will strengthen its identity across international routes.

By combining modern tailoring with Pakistan’s fashion heritage, the national carrier aims to deliver a renewed onboard experience.
