NEW DELHI: Kangana Ranaut has sharply criticised the Gen Z-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protests, describing the movement as “corrupt” and “rebellious” while targeting what she called “westernised” Indian women in a series of social media posts.

The actor and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament shared her views through Instagram Stories as nationwide debate continued over the protests, which erupted in response to repeated exam paper leaks. The demonstrations intensified political pressure, leading to the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Ranaut accused many young protesters of contributing little to society, claiming they lacked both academic achievement and personal responsibility. She also alleged that some used their freedom to pursue unhealthy lifestyles, making several controversial remarks about young women that quickly drew attention online.

More than 100 words into the controversy, Kangana Ranaut turned her criticism toward young Hindu women, arguing that some sought to imitate the lifestyles of independent career women without achieving the same level of professional or personal independence. She said genuinely independent women make bold choices, pursue unconventional careers and accept responsibility for their decisions.

The BJP lawmaker also addressed the protests directly, saying demonstrations should remain peaceful and warning participants against damaging public property.

“Once you damage public property, the public will damage you,” Ranaut wrote, adding that criticism is an inevitable consequence of public actions and statements.

She concluded her remarks by referring to the principle of cause and effect, suggesting that protesters should expect consequences for their actions rather than complain about public backlash.

Ranaut’s comments have added to the broader political debate surrounding the CJP movement, with supporters and critics continuing to clash over the protests and the government’s handling of the exam paper leak controversy.
