Elon Musk says he will give every child in the United States a share in his space company, SpaceX, next year.

“Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America,” Musk wrote on X on Monday.

“This will be the first of many,” he added. However, he did not explain how the plan would work.

Around 73 million children under 18 live in the United States, according to 2024 US Census Bureau data. Forbes estimates that Musk owns 38 per cent of SpaceX.

The announcement follows a separate proposal from US President Donald Trump. Last month, Trump promised to give every American adult $5,000 if Republicans retain control of Congress in November’s midterm elections.

SpaceX has also attracted attention for its reported $85.7 billion initial public offering in June. The supplied report describes it as the largest IPO in history.

Meanwhile, the company continues to develop its Starship rocket. Musk hopes to use the rocket for future missions to Mars.

The rocket reportedly reached orbit for the first time in September. This marked a major milestone for the programme.

However, Musk has not yet shared details about the proposed giveaway. Questions remain about eligibility, distribution and the number of shares each child would receive.
