Hollywood legend Al Pacino will receive the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award in 2027 in recognition of his contributions to acting and humanitarian work, the actors’ union announced on Thursday.
The 86-year-old American actor, best known for playing Michael Corleone in The Godfather films, will become the 62nd recipient of the prestigious award.
SAG-AFTRA will present the honour at the 33rd Actor Awards in Los Angeles on February 28, 2027. The ceremony will be livestreamed on Netflix.
Pacino has built a distinguished career spanning more than six decades across film, television and theatre. He is known for portraying some of cinema’s most memorable characters.
His notable roles include real-life police officer Frank Serpico in the 1973 film Serpico and Miami drug lord Tony Montana in the 1983 crime drama Scarface.
More recently, he played Hollywood talent agent Marvin Schwarz in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 film Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood.
SAG-AFTRA presents its Life Achievement Award annually to an actor who embodies the “finest ideals of the acting profession.”
Reacting to the announcement, Pacino expressed gratitude for the recognition and reflected on his lifelong connection with acting.
“I wondered and wandered most of my life but have always felt at home with a script and my fellow actors,” Pacino said in a statement released by the union.
“It’s the work and the actors along the way that have been among the greatest joys of my life. It’s an honour to be recognised by SAG-AFTRA in celebrating the journey,” he added.

Pacino won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as Lieutenant Colonel Frank Slade in the 1992 film Scent of a Woman. He has also received multiple Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe awards throughout his career.
Alongside his acting achievements, Pacino has participated in charitable initiatives. He took part in the America: A Tribute to Heroes telethon following the September 11, 2001, attacks.
