Liverpool avoided a first defeat under new manager Andoni Iraola after Victor Munoz struck late to secure a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Forest looked set to claim their third successive victory at Anfield after Dan Ndoye and Morgan Gibbs-White’s penalty twice put the visitors ahead. Alexander Isak levelled the contest in the second half, but Forest regained control before Munoz’s deflected effort rescued a point.

The result followed Iraola’s 2-2 draw at Newcastle in his opening match as Liverpool manager.

“It’s quite clear the first half has been poor,” Iraola said. “We haven’t controlled the game. We improved a lot in the second half.”

The former Bournemouth boss admitted his team needed greater intensity and faster movement on the ball.

Transfer move adds to Liverpool focus

Iraola could soon receive another major boost to his squad. Liverpool reportedly remain close to completing a £106 million deal for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola.

The transfer could rise by another £17 million depending on additional terms.

However, Iraola refused to confirm the move.

“There are still things going on at this moment,” he said. “Now we have to wait and look forward to having the squad on September 2.”

For now, the draw leaves Liverpool searching for their first league victory under Iraola. The Reds will next travel to Ipswich on Friday.

Hull continue remarkable Premier League return

Hull City maintained their perfect start to life back in the Premier League with a dramatic 1-0 victory at Coventry.

Substitute Liam Millar scored eight minutes from time to settle the contest between two sides promoted from the Championship last season.

Sergej Jakirovic’s team have now won both of their opening matches. The impressive run follows last weekend’s shock 2-0 victory over Manchester United.

Hull are playing in the top flight for the first time since the 2016-17 season.

Elsewhere, Everton secured a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth through a late James Tarkowski equaliser.

Alex Scott had given Bournemouth the lead in the 41st minute. However, Tarkowski punished confusion between Ryan Christie and Marcus Tavernier before firing home from a corner in stoppage time.

Everton remain unbeaten after opening their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Manchester City cruise past Palace

Manchester City produced another dominant display on Friday night, beating Crystal Palace 4-1 to maintain their perfect start.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 17th minute. The Norwegian forward rose to meet Antoine Semenyo’s cross and sent a looping header beyond Dean Henderson.

Palace created chances but failed to convert them. City eventually doubled their advantage when Rayan Cherki danced through the defence and finished in the 54th minute.

The hosts pulled one back two minutes later after Yeremy Pino’s free kick struck the crossbar and deflected off City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma before going in.

City responded immediately. Cherki scored again in the 59th minute after his shot took a deflection off Chris Richards.

Haaland then completed the victory in the 85th minute. He collected Phil Foden’s pass before firing a powerful left-foot finish into the net.

The win gives City six points from their opening two league matches and strengthens their early position among the Premier League contenders.
