Spider-Man: Brand New Day continued its strong run at the North American box office, topping ticket sales for a fourth consecutive weekend despite a sharp 45% drop in earnings.

The superhero film, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, earned $39 million in the latest weekend. Despite the decline, the Marvel blockbuster has maintained its position as the top-grossing film in North America.

The film has now collected $854.9 million in the United States and Canada since its July 31 release. It has also earned an additional $1.37 billion internationally, according to industry tracker Exhibitor Relations.

Insidious: Out of the Further, distributed by Sony Pictures, opened in second place with $25.3 million. The sixth instalment of the horror franchise stars Amelia Eve, Brandon Perea and Maisie Richardson-Sellers.

The film follows a young woman who can bring spirits into the mortal world while struggling with a haunting of her own.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey placed third with $19.5 million during its sixth weekend. The film fell 17% from the previous weekend and has reached $539.1 million domestically.

Paramount Pictures’ Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie ranked fourth with $9.1 million. The animated film saw its box office earnings fall 55% from its opening weekend.

Warner Bros’ sci-fi thriller The End of Oak Street finished fifth with $9 million. The film stars Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor as a couple fighting to survive after their neighbourhood is transported to prehistoric times.

Other films in the North American top 10 included Mutiny, which earned $7.5 million, followed by Tony with $5 million and Spa Weekend with $3.1 million.

The Fast and the Furious also collected $3.1 million, while Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma rounded out the top 10 with $1.9 million.
