Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Push Iran Diplomacy as Gulf Tensions Deepen

The future of Iran Diplomacy came into sharp focus after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman urged US President Donald Trump to prioritise dialogue and prevent the Middle East from sliding into a wider regional conflict.

According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the two leaders discussed the growing security situation during a phone call. The Saudi crown prince stressed that all possible efforts should focus on reducing tensions and creating conditions for diplomatic solutions. He warned that further escalation could threaten both regional and international security while also reviewing Saudi-US cooperation and ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

Saudi Arabia Calls for De-escalation

More than 100 words into the developments, Iran Diplomacy remained central as Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman called for peaceful engagement instead of military escalation. He emphasised that dialogue offers the best path to protecting stability across the Middle East and preventing a broader conflict with global consequences.

Meanwhile, Iran’s acting Defence Minister Majid Ibn al-Reza said Tehran considers every threat from its adversaries “real and credible.” He said Iran would continue strengthening its military readiness, deterrence capabilities and defence systems, even if threats formed part of psychological warfare.

Trump Delays Military Action

US President Donald Trump announced that he would postpone fresh military action against Iran while negotiations continue. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he agreed to suspend planned attacks after receiving requests to allow time for a diplomatic agreement that would halt Iran’s nuclear programme and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump said he hopes negotiations will produce a rapid deal. He also claimed Israel supports the diplomatic approach, although Israeli officials did not immediately comment publicly.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said recent American military strikes had weakened Iran’s conventional military capabilities and increased Tehran’s willingness to negotiate. Speaking to Fox News, Rubio argued that Washington now approaches talks from a stronger position.

Iran Warns Against Further Attacks

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned regional leaders that Tehran would respond decisively to any future military action by the United States or Israel. During calls with senior officials from Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, he said any aggression would receive a proportionate response.

Iranian lawmaker Hassan Ghashghavi also accused Washington of threatening military action publicly while privately seeking negotiations. He insisted Tehran would continue managing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz regardless of external pressure.

Separately, Iranian officials warned that attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure could trigger retaliation against regional oil and gas facilities.

Shipping and Oil Markets Remain Under Pressure

The conflict continues to disrupt global energy markets. Concerns over security in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea have reduced commercial shipping activity and increased risks for energy exports.

Brent crude prices rose sharply during July as investors monitored the conflict. Maritime security agencies also reported separate incidents involving commercial vessels near Oman, adding to concerns over regional shipping safety.

The latest diplomatic efforts highlight growing international pressure to prevent a wider Middle East conflict while negotiations continue over Iran’s nuclear programme, regional security and freedom of navigation through key global energy routes.
