Snoop Dogg will host the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards as the ceremony returns to Los Angeles later this month.

MTV announced the news on September 10. The rapper will take over hosting duties when the VMAs arrive in Los Angeles on September 27.

The ceremony marks the VMAs’ return to the West Coast for the first time since 2017.

Last year’s event took place in New York and featured LL Cool J as host.

Snoop Dogg Adds Another Major TV Role

The hosting role adds another major television appearance to Snoop Dogg’s long entertainment career.

The rapper has worked with NBC on coverage surrounding both the Summer and Winter Olympics. He also served as a coach on The Voice.

Snoop previously hosted his own New Year’s Eve special for NBC. He also joined Dr. Dre during the star-studded West Coast performance at the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show.

The VMAs have a special connection to Snoop. MTV supported his career during the early stages of his rise in hip-hop.

Snoop described the hosting opportunity as a full-circle moment. He also highlighted the role MTV played in giving hip-hop a major platform.

The rapper also praised his longstanding relationship with Van Toffler, a producer for this year’s ceremony.

Toffler previously held senior roles at MTV. He worked at the network during a major period of its growth and has maintained a professional relationship with Snoop.

Madonna Leads 2026 VMA Nominations

The 2026 VMAs are set to feature several major names from the music industry.

Madonna leads the nominations with 11 nods.

Her nominations include Video of the Year for “Confessions II: The Film”. She is also competing for Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for “Bring Your Love”.

Taylor Swift follows with nine nominations.

Her song “The Fate of Ophelia” received nominations for Video of the Year, Best Pop and Best Cinematography.

Swift is also in contention for Artist of the Year.

Nirvana to Receive Video Vanguard Award

Nirvana will receive the Video Vanguard Award during the ceremony.

The honour will bring a major rock music presence to an event featuring leading artists from pop and other genres.

The award recognises the band’s lasting influence on music videos and popular culture.

When and Where to Watch the 2026 VMAs

The 2026 MTV Video Music Awards will take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 27.

The ceremony will air live on CBS from 7:30pm to 9:30pm ET. MTV will simulcast the event.

In the United States, viewers will also be able to stream the ceremony on Paramount+ Premium.

International viewers will be able to watch the event on Paramount+ and MTV the following day.

Snoop Dogg will also serve as an executive producer for the ceremony.

Van Toffler is the producer, while Jesse Ignjatovic, Barb Bialkowski and Bruce Gillmer are among the executive producers.
