Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Urs Opens as Sindh Governor Calls for Peace and Unity

BHIT SHAH: Shah Bhittai‘s 283rd annual Urs celebrations officially began on Wednesday as Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi inaugurated the three-day event and paid tribute to the revered Sufi saint’s enduring message of peace, love and humanity.

The governor visited the shrine of Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai, laid a floral wreath, offered Fateha and prayed for Pakistan’s peace, stability, prosperity, national unity and the well-being of the Muslim Ummah.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Governor Hashmi said Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s teachings continue to inspire generations through their timeless message of compassion, tolerance, brotherhood and mutual respect. He described the saint’s philosophy as a symbol of Sindh’s rich cultural heritage, spirituality and Sufi traditions.

More than 100 words into his address, Shah Bhittai remained the central theme as the governor emphasized the importance of introducing young people to the Sufi poet’s teachings, poetry and intellectual legacy. He said future generations must understand the values of harmony, humanity and coexistence that define Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s philosophy.

Governor Highlights Sufi Legacy

Governor Hashmi said following Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s teachings can help build a peaceful, united, dignified and prosperous Pakistan.

He described the annual Urs as more than a religious and cultural gathering, calling it a celebration of Pakistan’s spiritual heritage, national identity and centuries-old Sufi traditions.

The governor added that Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s message of love and brotherhood would continue to illuminate society for generations.

Call for Global Recognition

Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Governor Hashmi said Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s message transcends religion, ethnicity and social divisions, promoting universal values of peace and humanity.

He said the people of Sindh are fortunate to inherit the spiritual treasure of Shah Jo Risalo and urged that the literary masterpiece be translated into more international languages so people around the world can better understand the Sufi saint’s philosophy.

Promoting Peace and Interfaith Harmony

Governor Hashmi noted that while conflicts once divided societies, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai preached love, peace and fraternity.

He said the presence of people from different faiths at the Urs reflected the saint’s enduring message of interfaith harmony, tolerance and mutual respect.

The governor stressed that the world should recognize Sindh and Pakistan as advocates of peace, coexistence and cultural harmony inspired by the teachings of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

The opening ceremony drew a large number of public representatives, religious scholars, devotees, cultural figures, government officials and visitors from across the country.
