The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has launched the BrainGain Portal, a digital platform designed to reconnect Pakistani engineers and professionals around the world.

The platform aims to bring overseas expertise into Pakistan’s engineering, research and technology sectors.

The portal was jointly inaugurated at PEC Headquarters in Islamabad by Engr. Shahid Iqbal Baloch, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Engr. Waseem Nazir, Chairman PEC.

Ambassador Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, Pakistan’s ambassador to France, attended the ceremony as Guest of Honour.

Senior government officials, diplomats, academics and industry representatives also attended the event.

BrainGain Connects Overseas Experts With Pakistan

The BrainGain Portal will allow Pakistani engineers and professionals abroad to share their expertise with organisations and individuals in Pakistan.

Participants can provide mentorship to engineering students and review research and technical proposals.

They can also supervise final-year projects and advise startups.

The platform will further allow experts to support industry, engineering standards and accreditation.

PEC said the initiative aims to turn overseas professional experience into practical opportunities for Pakistan.

Portal Creates Contributors and Seekers

The platform operates through two main categories: Contributors and Seekers.

Senior engineers, academics, consultants and specialists can register as Contributors. They can offer technical expertise, mentorship and professional networks.

Students, universities, startups and industry can join as Seekers.

Seekers can present practical challenges, research requirements and projects to experts registered on the platform.

The portal also includes a Hall of Fame for prominent Pakistani engineers.

An Iconic Projects registry will document major engineering achievements.

Meanwhile, the Success Stories section will highlight Pakistani achievements in engineering and technology around the world.

PEC Calls Knowledge the Key to BrainGain

PEC Chairman Engr. Waseem Nazir said the initiative seeks to bring the knowledge of overseas Pakistani engineers back to the country.

“We are not asking our engineers to come home. We are asking their knowledge to come home,” he said.

Nazir added that knowledge can generate new ideas and create opportunities for Pakistan.

Secretary Ministry of Science and Technology Engr. Shahid Iqbal Baloch described BrainGain as more than a networking platform.

He called it a permanent reserve of verified expertise that Pakistan can access when needed.

Baloch said countries do not lose talent simply because professionals move abroad. Instead, they lose its benefits when they stop engaging with their overseas experts.

Pakistani Missions Support Global Engineering Network

Ambassador Mumtaz Zahra Baloch congratulated PEC on the launch.

She expressed support for the initiative and said Pakistan’s diplomatic missions share the vision behind BrainGain.

She said the platform can help Pakistani engineers and scientists worldwide connect and exchange expertise.

The initiative can also create new opportunities for collaboration in Pakistan’s development.

Representatives from Pakistani diplomatic missions in France, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Australia, Canada and Saudi Arabia attended the launch.

Vice chancellors, faculty members, industry representatives, incubation centres, technology parks and startups also participated.

BrainGain Portal Launches in Beta

PEC’s Corporate Affairs Unit developed the BrainGain Portal under the leadership of Engr. Muhammad Sohail Khan, Head of Corporate Affairs.

Engr. Ali Raza Asif of the Global Linkages Division led the platform development.

Hamza Khan of the System Development Division supervised the implementation of its features.

BrainGain Ambassadors also helped shape the platform’s design.

These ambassadors include senior Pakistani engineers based abroad who will support outreach in their respective regions.

The portal has launched initially in Beta. PEC plans to move towards a full release as membership and usage increase.

Registration is free and open to Pakistani engineers and professionals worldwide. International experts, students, universities, startups and industry can also join the platform.
