North Korea has accused the United States, Japan and South Korea of creating a new security crisis in the Asia-Pacific by expanding their military cooperation, warning that the alliance is increasing regional tensions. In commentary published on Tuesday by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Pyongyang claimed that the three countries are strengthening their joint combat capabilities through large-scale military exercises and enhanced defence coordination. The statement comes as regional security concerns continue to rise amid growing military activities across the Indo-Pacific.
According to the commentary, RIMPAC was highlighted as a major example of what North Korea described as an aggressive military strategy led by Washington. Pyongyang argued that the multinational naval exercise reflects an attempt by the US, together with Japan and South Korea, to strengthen military dominance in the region.
North Korea claimed that this year’s RIMPAC exercise involved more than 30,000 military personnel, over 30 warships, five submarines and nearly 190 aircraft. The government described the exercise as a rehearsal for future military aggression rather than a defensive operation.
The commentary also criticised recent joint air force and logistics drills conducted by the United States and South Korea. Pyongyang objected to Washington’s plans to reinforce its military command structure in Japan and condemned the deployment of advanced US missile systems across the region.
North Korea warned that any increase in military pressure would trigger what it called “a deterrence of a new level,” signalling that it could respond with stronger defence measures if regional tensions continue to escalate.

Separately, North Korea’s Foreign Ministry dismissed recent US-led allegations accusing the country of posing a cyber threat. A ministry spokesperson called the accusations baseless and politically motivated, arguing that Washington is responsible for militarising cyberspace through cyber commands, joint military exercises and artificial intelligence-based defence initiatives.
Pyongyang maintained that the United States, rather than North Korea, is driving instability in both conventional and cyber domains. The government said it would continue taking measures to protect its national security and safeguard its development interests against what it described as increasing Western pressure.
The latest remarks underscore the deepening security rivalry in the Asia-Pacific, where military cooperation among the United States, Japan and South Korea continues to expand while North Korea strengthens its warnings against what it sees as growing strategic threats.
