KARACHI: Healthcare Expo opened in Karachi as Governor Sindh Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi inaugurated the third edition of the three-day Healthcare Expo and Conference. He said healthcare is a sacred mission that should focus on public welfare rather than commercial interests.

Speaking as the chief guest, the governor urged greater cooperation between public and private stakeholders. He said stronger collaboration is essential to improve healthcare services and strengthen the country’s medical sector.

The event attracted consuls general, senior healthcare professionals, doctors, medical experts and representatives from healthcare organisations.

Healthcare Should Prioritise Public Welfare

The governor said cleanliness remains one of the most effective ways to prevent disease. He urged hospitals and healthcare providers to maintain high hygiene standards during medical treatment and surgical procedures.

He said the state has a duty to provide affordable, accessible and quality healthcare to every citizen. He also described the medical profession as a noble service dedicated to saving lives.

Health Card and Medical Education

Nehal Hashmi said the restoration of the Health Facilitation Programme reflects Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s commitment to public healthcare.

He added that the Health Card programme was first introduced under a Pakistan Muslim League-N government. Its revival aims to improve access to quality healthcare for citizens.

The governor said Pakistan invests heavily in educating doctors, engineers and other professionals. He urged graduates to serve the nation with dedication and sincerity.

He also noted that higher education in Pakistan remains more affordable than in many countries. He announced that the federal government will establish a new Daanish School in Karachi as part of its nationwide expansion.

Innovation Takes Centre Stage

The governor praised the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and other public hospitals for delivering quality healthcare across Sindh.

After the inauguration, he toured the exhibition and visited several stalls. He reviewed modern medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare technologies and innovative medical products.

He appreciated the efforts of participating organisations. He said exhibitions like the Healthcare Expo encourage research, innovation and technological advancement in Pakistan’s healthcare sector.
