QUETTA, September 6, 2026: Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Quetta Garrison on Saturday and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to peace, prosperity and public welfare in Balochistan.
The visit came amid heightened security concerns in the province. Recent incidents have included attacks in Pishin and Chagai, along with counter-terrorism operations in Mastung, Kalat and Sibi.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Quetta Corps Commander received Munir upon his arrival.
The army chief was briefed on the security situation, operational preparedness and measures aimed at maintaining stability across Balochistan.
During the briefing, Munir said the peace, prosperity and well-being of Balochistan’s people remained central to state efforts.
He stressed that a stable security environment could support development initiatives and create greater economic opportunities.
The meeting also reviewed institutional coordination and socio-economic development in the province.

Munir praised the troops for their professionalism, operational readiness and commitment to their duties.
He also stressed continued coordination between law enforcement agencies and other state institutions.
According to ISPR, such coordination remains important for consolidating peace and creating conditions for sustained economic activity.
The field marshal also paid tribute to security personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. He praised the troops for their continued dedication.
The visit followed an ISPR statement that said security forces had killed 48 militants during multiple anti-terrorism operations across Balochistan.
The military said the operations took place over 72 hours in Mastung, Quetta, Kalat and Sibi.
According to ISPR, the operations targeted groups it described as “Indian proxies”, including those referred to by the state as Fitna-al-Hindustan and Fitna-al-Khawarij.
The Pakistani state uses the term Fitna-al-Khawarij for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). It also uses Fitna-al-Hindustan for Balochistan-based militant groups that the state alleges are linked to India.

The Balochistan government also reported that law enforcement agencies foiled a coordinated attack in Bhag.
According to the provincial government, five people were injured, including two police officers.
Shahid Rind, an aide to the Balochistan chief minister, said around 40 militants attacked a police station, a bank and the assistant commissioner’s office.
He alleged that the attackers used heavy weapons, rocket launchers, machine guns, sniper rifles and hand grenades.
Rind said security forces prevented the attackers from taking control of the Bhag police station or seizing weapons from the facility.
Another major incident occurred during the night of August 31 and September 1.
According to ISPR, TTP militants launched a coordinated attack on the Customs House near Ziarat Cross on the N-50 National Highway in Pishin district.
Security forces responded to the attack and killed 10 militants, according to the military.
However, six people were killed in the exchange of fire. ISPR said two of them were security officers.
The incident added to growing concerns over militant activity in the province.
Balochistan recorded the highest level of terrorist activity among Pakistan’s provinces last month, according to the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).
The institute’s monthly assessment recorded 89 terrorist attacks in Balochistan during August. That figure represented a 7% increase from the 83 attacks reported in July.
The latest security developments have placed renewed focus on counter-terrorism operations and coordination among state institutions.
Against this backdrop, Munir’s visit to Quetta highlighted the government and military’s stated focus on security, development and economic stability in Balochistan.
