Pakistan’s top military leadership has paid tribute to the martyrs of the country and expressed gratitude to the Ghazis and families of fallen soldiers on the occasion of the 61st Defence and Martyrs’ Day.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, along with Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Commander National Strategic Command General Syed Aamer Raza and other members of the Armed Forces, honoured those who sacrificed their lives in the service of Pakistan.
The statement was issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on September 6, marking Defence and Martyrs’ Day.
The military leadership described September 6 as an enduring symbol of national unity, courage and determination.
According to the statement, the day recalls the 1965 war and the role of the Pakistani nation in standing together in defence of the country.

The Armed Forces said the sacrifices made during the conflict continue to represent the courage and resolve of Pakistan’s defenders.
The tribute also extended beyond those who served on the battlefield, recognising the families who have carried the burden of loss while maintaining their resilience and strength.
The Armed Forces said Pakistan’s martyrs represent the highest ideals of honour, duty and sacrifice.
Generations of military personnel have served across the country’s battlefields, skies and seas, with many making the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
The statement said their legacy continues to inspire future generations.
The military leadership also paid tribute to the Ghazis, describing them as personnel who continue to protect Pakistan’s frontiers through courage, dedication and professional service.
The families of the martyrs were also recognised for their resilience and contribution to the nation.
The Pakistani military leadership said the Armed Forces remain prepared to defend the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and national interests.
At the same time, the statement stressed that Pakistan seeks peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
The Armed Forces said the country remains committed to responsible conduct and peaceful coexistence with other nations.
However, the statement warned that Pakistan’s commitment to peace should not be interpreted as weakness.
It said any aggression against the country would receive a swift and decisive response.
On Defence and Martyrs’ Day, the Armed Forces renewed their commitment to serving Pakistan and its people.
The military leadership said the sacrifices of the martyrs, the courage of the Ghazis and the resilience of their families would continue to serve as a source of national strength and pride.
The Armed Forces also reaffirmed that they would continue carrying out their responsibilities with honour, professionalism and determination.
The statement concluded with a message of solidarity between the Armed Forces and the people of Pakistan.
