KARACHI, September 17, 2026: Police have arrested a suspect in the murder of a woman and her three children in Karachi’s Surjani Town.

The suspect, identified as Humayun, is the brother-in-law of the victim’s husband, Danish, according to police.

Police also recovered the alleged murder weapon based on information provided by the suspect.

The latest development came after investigators initially struggled to identify the killer. Police had earlier formed an eight-member investigation team and examined technical evidence, including geofencing, call records and CCTV footage.

Suspect Arrested After Investigation

DIG West Irfan Baloch said during a press conference that police formally arrested Humayun after questioning him.

SSP West Tariq Elahi Mastoi and SP Investigation West Masroor also attended the briefing.

According to the police, Humayun allegedly confessed during interrogation to killing the woman and her three children.

The claim remains part of the police investigation and will be subject to the legal process.

Suspect Was Previously a Tenant

Police said Humayun had lived in the upper portion of Danish’s house as a tenant about one and a half years ago.

According to investigators, Danish later asked him to leave the property.

Police said Humayun visited Danish’s house on the day of the killings because he knew Danish was not at home.

Investigators are examining the circumstances of his visit and his movements before and after the incident.

Police Recover Alleged Murder Weapon

Police said the suspect allegedly took the weapon from the house after the killings.

According to the investigators, he later threw it into a drain.

Police recovered the weapon after the suspect identified the location.

Investigators are now examining the recovered weapon and other evidence to establish the sequence of events.

Four Victims Killed in Surjani Town

The victims were identified as 34-year-old Mehwish, her eight-year-old daughter Mirha, six-year-old son Hasnain and young daughter Ashmeera.

The four were found at their home in Sector 7-D, Surjani Town, earlier this week.

Post-mortem examinations found multiple injuries to the heads of the victims, according to the police surgeon.

Police initially investigated the possibility of a robbery but later found that household belongings were largely intact. Investigators also suspected that someone familiar with the family could be involved.

Investigation Continues

Police are continuing to investigate the motive and the suspect’s alleged role in the killings.

Investigators are also examining digital and other evidence recovered during the investigation.

Police said the case has caused concern in the area. The DIG West also said terrorism-related provisions would be considered in the case.

The suspect remains in police custody as investigators work to establish the circumstances and motive behind the killings.
