Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has directed officials to accelerate work on the Yellow Line BRT project in Karachi.

He issued the directives during a meeting of the Transport Department in Karachi on Wednesday.

The meeting reviewed progress on different sections of the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit project.

Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA) Managing Director Behzad Memon, World Bank representatives, consultants and other officials attended the meeting.

Yellow Line Depot Construction to Be Accelerated

Sharjeel Memon directed officials to speed up construction work on the Yellow Line BRT.

He said authorities should use all available resources to complete the project.

The minister also ordered faster construction of the Yellow Line depot and other related infrastructure.

He stressed that the timely completion of the depot and other basic infrastructure remains important for the project.

The Yellow Line is a World Bank-supported mass transit project. Sindh Assembly records show that the project includes a 21-kilometre route from Dawood Chowrangi in Korangi and remains under execution.

Work on Jam Sadiq Bridge Also Reviewed

The meeting also reviewed construction work linked to the Jam Sadiq Bridge.

Sharjeel Memon directed officials to complete the second section of the bridge as quickly as possible.

He also called for stronger coordination among government departments, consultants and technical experts.

The minister said the project team should be expanded where necessary to improve construction capacity.

Daily Monitoring Ordered

Sharjeel Memon directed authorities to monitor the Yellow Line project on a daily basis.

He ordered officials to submit daily progress reports.

The minister also stressed effective communication between all departments and project stakeholders.

The directives are aimed at keeping construction work aligned with the project schedule.

Earlier Sindh Assembly records showed that the Yellow Line project had separate construction packages for the depots and the New Jam Sadiq Bridge, while other corridor-related packages were under design and review.

Yellow Line Part of Karachi Transport Network

The Sindh government has described the Yellow Line as an important component of Karachi’s mass transit system.

The Sindh Mass Transit Authority currently lists BRT corridors, electric public transport and other mass transit initiatives among its transport projects.

The government has also said it aims to integrate different public transport components across Karachi.

Sharjeel Memon has previously said the Yellow Line is intended to improve public transport options for Karachi residents.
