Indonesia’s Independence Day Brings Blood Donation Drive to Karachi

KARACHI, August 15, 2026: The Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi joined hands with the Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation (AMTF) on Saturday to organize a blood donation drive for children receiving treatment for thalassemia.

The annual blood donation drive took place at the AMTF Center as part of events marking the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. Indonesian diplomats, Consulate staff, students and members of the Indonesian community in Karachi took part in the humanitarian activity.

Consul General of Indonesia in Karachi, Mudzakir, thanked AMTF for its continued work in supporting children living with thalassemia. He said the annual initiative had developed into a meaningful tradition linking the Indonesian community with people in Karachi.

Mudzakir said the activity reflected the values of solidarity, compassion and mutual support that underpin the longstanding friendship between Indonesia and Pakistan.

“As Indonesia commemorates its 81st Independence Day, we believe that the spirit of independence should also inspire us to share, to care, and to contribute to the communities around us,” he said.’

He added that the blood donation campaign aimed to extend a message of friendship from the Indonesian people to the people of Pakistan.

The initiative also highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation for thalassemia patients. Many children with the condition require regular blood transfusions as part of their treatment.

Asim Qidwai, Founder and CEO of AMTF, appreciated the Indonesian Consulate and the Indonesian community for their continued support. He said regular blood donations help maintain a reliable supply for children who depend on transfusions.

Qidwai also welcomed the Consulate’s efforts to promote awareness about voluntary blood donation and encourage wider public participation.

The annual campaign has become an important humanitarian link between the Indonesian Consulate, the Indonesian community and AMTF. It combines Independence Day celebrations with practical support for families affected by thalassemia.

The Consulate and AMTF reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the partnership and encouraging more people to donate blood.

The initiative also strengthened people-to-people ties between Indonesia and Pakistan. Both sides described humanitarian cooperation as an important part of the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
