Healthy Schools Initiative Expands as SHINE Humanity Trains Teachers Across Sindh

KARACHI: Healthy Schools took a major step forward in Sindh after SHINE Humanity completed a three-day teacher training programme designed to improve health education in government schools. The initiative equipped teachers with practical knowledge on hygiene, nutrition, disease prevention and overall wellbeing to help create healthier learning environments for children in rural communities.

SHINE Humanity organized the training in August 2026 under its Healthy Schools Initiative. The programme brought together 20 teachers from Government Boys Primary Cluster School and Government Girls Cluster School in Gharo, District Thatta. The participants included nine women and 11 men.

The organisation launched the programme as a pilot project in Thatta and plans to expand it to other districts across Sindh. It aims to provide age-appropriate health education for primary and secondary school students while involving teachers, parents and school management committees in promoting healthier lifestyles.

Teachers Gain Practical Health Skills

During the three-day programme, teachers received training on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), disease prevention, nutrition, first aid, menstrual health management, mental wellbeing, child protection, life skills and substance abuse prevention.

In addition, the sessions covered Health Clubs, community engagement and school action planning. Trainers encouraged participants to apply these lessons in classrooms and share healthy practices with families and local communities.

The programme followed an activity-based learning model. Therefore, teachers participated in demonstrations, role plays, group discussions, practical exercises and reflection sessions. This hands-on approach helped them connect classroom learning with real-life situations they face in schools.

Moreover, pre- and post-training assessments showed significant improvement in participants’ understanding of key health topics. Teachers demonstrated stronger knowledge of WASH and other essential health practices after completing the programme.

CEO Highlights Preventive Healthcare

SHINE Humanity Chief Executive Officer Faheem Khan said good health depends not only on treating illnesses but also on prevention, awareness and informed decision-making.

He said the enthusiasm shown by teachers throughout the training reflected their commitment to improving children’s wellbeing. According to him, investing in teachers ultimately benefits every student by creating safer, healthier and more supportive schools.

Teachers Welcome the Initiative

Teachers responded positively to the programme and described the interactive sessions as practical and engaging. Meanwhile, mental health and child protection emerged as the most appreciated training topics among participants.

Many teachers also suggested adding eye health to future training sessions. Furthermore, they said the programme increased their confidence and prepared them to introduce healthy habits in their classrooms.

SHINE Humanity believes early health education can reduce illness-related absenteeism, encourage healthier lifestyles and strengthen communities across Sindh. As the initiative expands, the organisation hopes to reach more schools and empower thousands of students with lifelong health knowledge.
