The university unveiled the manual at a ceremony attended by Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Syed Mustafa Kamal. He praised the initiative and said Pakistan needs practical tools that help healthcare professionals provide better treatment. He added that evidence-based resources can improve the quality and consistency of medical care for children nationwide.
AKU developed the manual through its Centre for Clinical Best Practices in collaboration with the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. The resource includes 88 evidence-based clinical guidelines across 14 pediatric subspecialties.
Moreover, the manual serves pediatricians, family physicians, residents, medical officers and other healthcare professionals. It provides bedside-ready recommendations that support faster diagnosis and informed clinical decisions.
Dr. Adil H. Haider, former Dean of AKU Medical College, serves as the Editor-in-Chief. Furthermore, healthcare professionals can access the manual free of charge through the university’s official website and dedicated Android and iOS applications.
Government officials, medical educators and healthcare leaders attended the launch ceremony. Representatives from the Pakistan Pediatric Association, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, Armed Forces Postgraduate Medical Institute and Sindh Institute of Child Health and Neonatology also participated in the event.
Meanwhile, AKU President Dr. Sulaiman Shahabuddin said the university created the manual to place trusted medical knowledge in the hands of professionals caring for children. He explained that combining international scientific evidence with local healthcare realities can strengthen clinical decisions and improve children’s health outcomes.
In addition, Professor Dr. Fyezah Jehan, Chair of AKU’s Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, said global medical evidence must match Pakistan’s healthcare needs. She noted that the manual helps bridge the gap between international research and everyday clinical practice.
AKU offers the manual free of charge through its official website and mobile applications. Therefore, healthcare professionals across Pakistan can easily access reliable clinical guidance whenever they need it.
The university expects the initiative to improve pediatric care, strengthen clinical decision-making and support better health outcomes for children throughout the country. As a result, doctors will have quicker access to trusted recommendations while treating young patients.
