ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Navy has promoted Commodore Tassawar Iqbal, Commodore Muhammad Umair, Commodore Shahid Wasif and Commodore Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar to the rank of Rear Admiral, recognizing their distinguished military service and leadership.

According to a Pakistan Navy spokesperson, the promotions acknowledge the officers’ extensive command experience, professional achievements and contributions to naval operations, training and strategic planning.

Rear Admiral Tassawar Iqbal received his commission in the Operations Branch of the Pakistan Navy in 1995. He graduated from the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore and the National Defence University in Islamabad, and also completed the Inter Services Staff Course in France.

More than 100 words into the announcement, Pakistan Navy highlighted Rear Admiral Tassawar Iqbal’s distinguished career, which includes serving as Commanding Officer of PNS Alamgir, Commander of the 25th Destroyer Squadron, Commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy and Senior Pakistan Navy Officer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He currently serves as Commander West and has received the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) for his outstanding services.

Senior Officers Receive Key Promotions

Rear Admiral Muhammad Umair joined the Pakistan Navy’s Operations Branch in 1996. He completed higher military education at the Pakistan Navy War College and the National Defence University. He also attended the Communication Command Course in China and the Naval Staff College Course in the United States.

During his career, he commanded PNS Quwwat, PNS Tariq, PNS Tabuk and the 14th Destroyer Squadron. He also served as Deputy Director Naval Operational Plans (Strategy) at Naval Headquarters. He currently serves as Commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi and is a recipient of the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).

Distinguished Careers in Naval Leadership

Rear Admiral Shahid Wasif was commissioned in 1996 and completed advanced military education in the United Kingdom and Australia. He holds a Master’s degree in Defence Studies from King’s College London and a Master’s degree in International Relations from Deakin University, Australia.

His command and staff appointments include Commanding Officer of PNS Saif, Deputy Director Naval Operational Plans (Strategy), Assistant Naval Secretary (Operations), Director Human Resources and Principal Secretary to the Chief of the Naval Staff. He currently commands the 25th Destroyer Squadron and has also received the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).

Extensive Strategic and International Experience

Rear Admiral Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar also joined the Pakistan Navy in 1996. He completed the Advanced Command and Staff Course in the United Kingdom and earned a Master’s degree in Defence Studies from King’s College London.

Throughout his career, he commanded PNS Zarrar, PNS Shamsheer, PNS Zulfiqar and the 10th Patrol Craft Squadron. He also served as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations), Pakistan’s Naval Adviser in New Delhi and Deputy Commandant of the Pakistan Navy War College in Lahore.

Rear Admiral Rao Ahmed Imran Anwar currently serves as Naval Secretary at Naval Headquarters in Islamabad. In recognition of his distinguished service, he has received both the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) and the Tamgha-e-Basalat.

The latest promotions reinforce the Pakistan Navy’s senior leadership and recognize decades of operational excellence, strategic planning and professional service across key command and staff appointments.
