KARACHI: CPEC 2.0 gained fresh momentum on Monday as President Asif Ali Zardari directed officials to accelerate agreements between the Government of Sindh and leading Chinese companies. He ordered departments to complete all remaining technical and procedural requirements quickly so projects can move forward without delays.
The president chaired a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s House with delegations from Anhui Nengtong New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Luoyang Modern Biology Group. The China-Pakistan-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Promotion Association facilitated the meeting.
Officials reviewed progress on previously signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs). They also discussed practical steps to speed up implementation across multiple sectors.
The meeting reviewed cooperation in electric vehicle charging infrastructure, veterinary vaccines, agricultural technology, healthcare, fire safety equipment and animal identification systems.
More than 100 words into the discussion, President Zardari said CPEC 2.0 creates new opportunities for investment, advanced technology and industrial growth. He said Karachi and Hyderabad offer strong potential for electric vehicle infrastructure.
He also identified the Karachi-Hyderabad M-9 Motorway as an ideal route for Pakistan’s first major intercity EV charging network.
The president expressed confidence that these projects will strengthen Pakistan’s transition toward green mobility. He said they will also support the country’s growing clean energy sector.
Officials briefed the president on the Sindh government’s efforts to coordinate with Chinese companies and remove administrative hurdles.
President Zardari reaffirmed that the government will continue supporting Chinese investors. He said Pakistan highly values its All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership with China.
He added that Pakistan remains committed to expanding economic cooperation under CPEC 2.0. He also said his regular visits to China reflect Islamabad’s commitment to stronger bilateral ties and long-term investment.
Officials informed the president that Anhui Nengtong New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. plans to manufacture EV charging stations in Sindh.
The proposal also includes solar-storage charging facilities, energy storage systems, smart charging networks, technology transfer and technical training.
These projects aim to strengthen Pakistan’s electric vehicle ecosystem while creating opportunities for local expertise and industrial development.
The meeting also reviewed cooperation with Luoyang Modern Biology Group on veterinary biological vaccines and livestock identification systems.
Officials discussed the upcoming visit of a Sindh Institute of Animal Husbandry delegation to China in August. They also reviewed technical work on the Sindh-08 strain of foot-and-mouth disease.
Authorities expect vaccine trials in Pakistan and China to conclude by November 2026. After that, both sides will finalize production costs and implementation timelines.
