Three Killed as Houthi Attacks Target Saudi Arabia Airports

Three people died and 36 others suffered injuries in attacks on two Saudi airports.

The attacks targeted King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha International Airport.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attacks. They said they launched missiles and drones at both airports.

The attacks come as fighting between the Houthis and Saudi-backed forces intensifies in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority confirmed the attacks on Wednesday. It said attackers targeted both airports on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The authority did not identify those behind the attacks.

An Egyptian and an Algerian national died at Abha airport. A Sudanese national died at King Khalid airport.

Five Saudi citizens suffered injuries at the Riyadh airport. Two Egyptians and one Pakistani also suffered injuries.

Ballistic Missile Targets Riyadh Airport

The Saudi-led coalition said its forces destroyed the missile launch platform used in the Riyadh attack.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed responsibility for the missile strike.

He said the group targeted King Khalid International Airport with a ballistic missile.

Saree also claimed the attack disrupted air traffic at the airport.

The Saudi-led coalition said its forces intercepted the missile.

The Houthis also claimed an attack near Aden airport in Yemen.

They said they targeted a military supply convoy near the airport.

Yemen’s state-run Saba news agency also reported missile and drone attacks.

Transport authorities told Saba that one missile landed near the airport runway.

The missile landed shortly before a Cairo flight was due to arrive.

The airline diverted the flight to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

The Houthis also claimed attacks on Abha airport and King Khalid Air Base.

Fighting Intensifies in Yemen

Saudi Arabia has led an international coalition against the Houthis since 2015.

The coalition supports Yemen’s internationally recognised government.

Saudi Arabia now supports a new government counter-offensive against the Houthis.

The latest escalation follows the collapse of a four-year ceasefire in July.

The Houthis have seized large areas along Yemen’s western Red Sea coastline.

Government forces have announced plans to retake territory controlled by the group.

The United Nations said the renewed fighting has displaced more than 200,000 people.

Yemen’s government has claimed recent gains in strategic areas along the Red Sea.

It has also reported advances around the port city of Mocha.

The Houthis have rejected the government’s claims.

Military sources from both sides reported fresh clashes in western Yemen on Wednesday.

The fighting killed at least 62 combatants, according to sources cited by AFP.

The sources said 37 of those killed were Houthis.

Saba also reported a Houthi missile attack on the government-held city of Taiz.

The attack injured five civilians.

Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

The prolonged conflict has created a severe humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

Most of the country’s population now depends on humanitarian assistance.

Mohammed, a 33-year-old charity worker, fled Mocha for Aden.

He told AFP that residents were increasingly afraid as fighting intensified.

“Life in Mocha has come to a complete standstill,” he said.

The rival sides have made claims that independent sources could not verify.

The fighting is moving quickly, while access for journalists remains limited.
