Imran Khan will be shifted from Adiala Jail to Al-Shifa International Hospital for treatment for the next few days, the Supreme Court ordered on Tuesday, while directing authorities to arrange weekly meetings between the PTI founder and his family.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed heard petitions concerning Khan’s medical treatment, access to his sisters and personal physicians, and his medical records.
The court also ordered that Khan’s personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, be allowed to examine him. It directed authorities to form a medical board comprising an eye specialist, a general physician and Dr Sultan.
Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma Khanum, was also granted access to him. The court directed his family to bear the cost of his hospital treatment.
The Supreme Court ordered authorities to provide Khan’s complete medical record rather than a summary.
“We want Imran Khan’s complete record; we do not want a summary,” Justice Waheed told the Islamabad Advocate General.
The court also questioned why Islamabad High Court orders regarding meetings with Khan had not been implemented. Adiala Jail authorities were summoned for the next hearing and directed to explain the non-compliance.
The court further sought details of meetings between Khan and his sisters, along with records of telephone calls between him and his children.
A recent medical report submitted to the court highlighted fluctuating blood pressure, palpitations, headaches, restlessness and anxiety.
A PIMS cardiologist examined Khan on August 1 and recorded his blood pressure at 140/100mmHg. A four-member medical board later examined him on August 10 and recorded a reading of 140/80mmHg.
The board recommended regular walking, relaxation and more frequent interaction with Khan’s immediate family and spouse to help manage his anxiety and blood pressure.
The report said Khan had undergone at least 39 medical check-ups since his imprisonment. Jail medical officers were reportedly checking him three times a day.
The report also stated that his ECG was normal and that his vision had improved following treatment for an eye condition.

The Supreme Court directed Khan’s family and lawyers not to share his medical reports with the media.
Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan ordered that the medical report remain confidential and warned against using Khan’s medical condition for political purposes.
The court also directed the PTI leadership not to hold political activities, media talks or press conferences outside the hospital.
“Do not engage in politics outside the hospital,” Justice Naeem Akhtar said, noting that other patients were also present at the facility.
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja assured the court that political activities would remain separate from Khan’s treatment.
The court also ordered arrangements for Khan to speak with his children by telephone.
Additional Attorney General Aamir Rehman opposed the hospital transfer, arguing that the government had not received notice and that Khan could not be shifted immediately.
The Islamabad Advocate General told the court that medical procedures such as angiography could be performed at a hospital outside the jail.
Justice Waheed questioned the authorities over Khan’s health and the medical information submitted to the court.
The bench also directed authorities to provide details of all cases against Khan, including those in which he remains an under-trial prisoner, convictions and suspended sentences.
Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, remain incarcerated at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.
Khan has been in custody since August 2023 and is serving a sentence in the £190 million corruption case. He also faces pending trials under the Anti-Terrorism Act related to the May 9, 2023 protests.
The couple was sentenced to 17 years in prison in December 2025 in the Toshakhana-II case.
The Supreme Court adjourned the hearing until September 16.
