Sindh Expands Poverty Relief Drive as Hemnani Distributes Rs10m Interest-Free Loans in Ghotki

GHOTKI, August 25, 2026: Sindh has stepped up its poverty reduction efforts as government spokesperson Sukhdev Hemnani distributed Rs10 million in interest-free loans among more than 50 beneficiaries in Ghotki under the Peoples Poverty Reduction Programme (PPRP).

The interest-free loans are aimed at helping families build sustainable livelihoods rather than relying solely on financial assistance. Women entrepreneurs, livestock owners, small businesses and other income-generating activities are among those receiving support under the initiative.

One beneficiary received Rs2.5 million to expand a scrap business, while other recipients were provided smaller loans according to their individual livelihood and business requirements.

The cheque distribution ceremony was attended by Hemnani as chief guest and was organised in partnership with the Sindh Rural Support Organisation (SRSO).

Hemnani said the programme reflected the Sindh government’s focus on economic self-reliance, particularly by creating opportunities for women and underserved communities.

“When people are given the means to earn, establish businesses and create livelihoods, they are able to shape their own future,” Hemnani said.

He added that the programme was based on a broader approach to poverty reduction, where communities receive resources to develop businesses and improve household incomes.

Women at the centre of livelihood support

According to Hemnani, more than 1.5 million families across Sindh have benefited from PPRP through community-driven development, livelihood assistance and interest-free financing.

He said women have remained an important part of the programme, with financial support helping them participate more actively in economic activities.

The government believes that providing access to capital can help families establish small enterprises, expand existing businesses and create more stable sources of income.

Hemnani linked the initiative to the wider development agenda of the provincial government and the PPP leadership, describing it as an effort to promote inclusive and people-centred development.

Housing and economic security

Hemnani also highlighted the Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF), saying the programme’s provision of home ownership to women was another example of efforts aimed at strengthening economic security.

He said livelihood ownership through PPRP and housing ownership through SPHF shared the same broader objective: giving families greater dignity, financial stability and control over their future.

“Whether it is ownership of a livelihood through PPRP or ownership of a home through SPHF, our objective is the same,” he said.

Solar kits distributed among beneficiaries

Alongside the loan cheques, Hemnani distributed solar kits and tree saplings among beneficiaries.

The addition of solar equipment reflects the government’s effort to combine livelihood assistance with measures aimed at improving access to sustainable energy and supporting environmental initiatives.

The government said it would continue working to expand livelihood opportunities, strengthen women’s economic participation and provide support to communities facing economic challenges across Sindh.
