ISLAMABAD, August 25, 2026: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has resubmitted its contempt of court petition before the Supreme Court after addressing objections raised by the registrar’s office over the alleged non-implementation of an order concerning former prime minister Imran Khan’s medical treatment.
The Imran Khan petition concerns the Supreme Court’s August 18 directive requiring the former prime minister to be shifted from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment and directing authorities to facilitate weekly meetings with his family.
PTI says the order was not implemented after Imran was instead taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a medical examination and subsequently returned to jail.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan told reporters outside the Supreme Court that he met the registrar at the public facilitation centre after objections were raised against the petition.
The petition was initially returned to the party. Gohar said PTI had addressed the objections and would resubmit the case.
“We want the same bench to be constituted today so that the case can be heard on Thursday,” he said.
The registrar’s office later assigned petition number 8/2026 to the case.
Gohar said the party wanted an early hearing because it believed the Supreme Court’s August 18 order had not been followed.
He also appealed for arrangements to be made for meetings between Imran and his family.
Imran was taken to PIMS in the early hours of August 21 for a medical examination. Doctors subsequently declared him medically fit, and he was returned to Adiala Jail.
The government said security concerns prompted the change in arrangements.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said PTI workers had created a security situation outside the jail and along the route to Shifa International Hospital.
The government has separately challenged the Supreme Court’s August 18 directive through a review petition, describing the order as discriminatory.
The dispute has consequently created two competing legal proceedings: PTI’s contempt petition over alleged non-compliance and the government’s request for the Supreme Court to review its original order.
The Supreme Court on Monday declined requests from both sides for an expedited hearing.
The federal government had asked the court to fix its review petition within two days. The court did not accept the request and decided to hear the matter according to its regular turn.
PTI is now seeking an early hearing of its contempt petition.
The party argues that an order remains binding unless the Supreme Court itself modifies or overturns it.
Gohar said PTI also wants Imran’s sister, Dr Uzma, and his personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, included in his medical board.
The party has called for Imran to undergo all recommended medical tests.
Gohar said PTI’s immediate concern was Imran’s health rather than politics.
He claimed that meetings with the former prime minister had been stopped for around 10 months and described the situation as a humanitarian concern.
Responding to questions about Dr Uzma’s assessment that Imran was medically fit, Gohar said appearing physically well was different from receiving the medical treatment recommended by doctors.
He said Imran’s physician had prepared a report after examining him in jail and recommended additional tests and medical measures.
Gohar also questioned the detention of Imran’s physician, Dr Faisal, after the doctor was taken to Shifa International Hospital.
According to Gohar, the physician was taken to the hospital but Imran was not brought there.
He questioned why the doctor was allegedly detained for around five hours and said the matter had been included in the contempt petition.
PTI lawyer Hamid Khan also discussed procedural issues surrounding the petition, saying the registrar had informed the party that one judge was present at the Lahore registry.
The lawyers argued that previous cases had been heard through video link and that a similar arrangement could be considered.

The Supreme Court’s original directive had triggered speculation about whether Imran could eventually be transferred from prison or whether an understanding had been reached between PTI and the authorities.
PTI has rejected any suggestion that the issue is primarily political and has instead focused on implementation of the court’s medical directions.
Gohar also said Imran had not expressed displeasure with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi or the PTI leadership.
Asked about his contacts with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi before the Supreme Court order, Gohar acknowledged that he had met the minister from time to time but declined to discuss the details.
The dispute is now before the Supreme Court on two fronts.
PTI wants contempt proceedings over the alleged failure to implement the August 18 order, while the federal government is seeking a review of that directive.
The court has yet to agree to an early hearing of either matter.
PTI says it hopes the contempt petition will be fixed soon and that the Supreme Court will ensure implementation of its earlier order concerning Imran’s medical treatment and family meetings.
