Sindh Senior Minister and Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has described prolonged load shedding in the province as a serious governance failure.
Speaking in the Sindh Assembly, Memon criticised the performance of HESCO, SEPCO and K-Electric. He said the power distribution companies were failing to provide basic services to consumers.
Memon said the problem had been repeatedly discussed in the Sindh Assembly. He added that political parties represented in the House shared concerns about the performance of the three electricity providers.
Memon questioned why an effective system had not been developed to address load shedding permanently.
He said simply discussing electricity bill recovery would not solve the problem. Instead, authorities should establish a system that identifies consumers who pay their bills and those who do not.
Memon said consumers who fail to pay their bills should face appropriate action. However, those who regularly pay their bills should receive reliable electricity services.
He highlighted the severity of the problem during Sindh’s summer months.

According to Memon, temperatures in some parts of the province can reach 50 degrees Celsius. He said some areas face up to 18 hours of load shedding in a day.
“How can it be acceptable to subject people to such hardship in extreme heat?” he asked.
Memon said the issue should also be raised in the National Assembly and Senate.
He noted that members of his political party were already raising the matter in Parliament.
The minister said a Parliamentary Committee had been formed and representatives of HESCO, SEPCO and K-Electric had been summoned.
However, he said the problem remained unresolved.
Memon called for the representatives to appear before the committee again if they failed to provide satisfactory answers.
He also proposed summoning officials from gas companies, water authorities and relevant federal ministries.
“If HESCO, SEPCO and K-Electric fail to satisfy the Parliamentary Committee, their representatives should be summoned again,” Memon said.
He added that authorities should take effective action if institutions failed to meet their legal responsibilities or remain accountable to Parliament.
Memon said Sindh’s problems extend beyond electricity.
He highlighted shortages and access issues involving water and gas. He said drinking water was particularly important for Karachi because the city relies heavily on its major water supply system.
The minister also compared water-related challenges in Sindh with subsidised water supplies in some parts of Punjab.
He said Karachi continues to face serious difficulties in accessing clean drinking water.
Memon argued that electricity, water, gas and highways should be treated as basic public services.
He urged political parties to set aside differences and work collectively to improve service delivery.
Earlier, Memon paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on the occasion of his death anniversary.
He said Jinnah played a historic role in the creation of Pakistan through his struggle, sacrifices and leadership.
Memon urged the nation to renew its commitment to Jinnah’s principles of Faith, Unity and Discipline.
He said the Quaid-e-Azam envisioned a strong, united and prosperous Pakistan. His message, Memon added, remained relevant for the country.
The minister expressed concern over divisions based on politics, religion and language.
He called for an end to hatred, prejudice and divisive politics.
Memon said national interests should remain above political and personal differences.
Memon said Pakistan must confront internal and external challenges through unity.
He described Pakistan as a federation in which all four provinces are equal components.
According to the minister, strengthening the federation and promoting national unity reflect the vision of Quaid-e-Azam.
He urged citizens to reject hatred and prejudice and follow the principles of Faith, Unity and Discipline.
“If we are united, Pakistan will be strong, and this will be a true tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah,” he said.
