Scott McTominay scored twice as Napoli secured their first victory of this Champions League campaign with a thrilling 4-3 win over Bodø/Glimt on Tuesday, October 20.
The match at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona delivered seven goals and late drama. Napoli earned their first three points in their third match, but they had to work hard to overcome the Norwegian visitors.
Matteo Politano opened the scoring in the first minute. Leonardo Spinazzola delivered a cross, and Politano finished with a first-time shot to give the hosts an early lead.
Napoli created more chances but failed to extend their advantage. Bodø/Glimt took advantage of an opportunity and levelled the score through Jens Petter Hauge.
McTominay restored Napoli’s lead just before half-time. The Scottish midfielder combined with Kevin De Bruyne before beating goalkeeper Nikita Haikin to make it 2-1.
Napoli continued to threaten after the break, but the hosts again allowed the visitors space to attack.

Andreas Helmersen brought Bodø/Glimt level for a second time. The Norwegian side then enjoyed longer spells of possession and pushed for the lead.
Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret had to make a save as the hosts struggled to regain control. McTominay also struck the post during the contest.
The Scottish midfielder eventually put Napoli ahead again. Politano supplied a cross, and McTominay rose to head home for his second goal of the night and Napoli’s third.
Napoli later extended their advantage to 4-2, moving closer to a crucial European victory. However, Bodø/Glimt scored again in stoppage time to set up a tense finish.
Napoli held on to claim a 4-3 victory and collect their first points of the Champions League campaign.
The result offered an important boost for coach Massimiliano Allegri after recent defeats against Venezia in the league and Villarreal in Europe.
However, Napoli’s three goals conceded highlighted concerns about their defensive organisation. The Italian side will need greater consistency at the back as the Champions League campaign continues.
