Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif plans to meet US President Donald Trump on September 23 on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, according to high-level sources.
Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will host a reception dinner for heads of state and government attending UNGA 81 on the evening of September 23.
The reception will take place at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel on Madison Avenue, according to sources cited by The News.
PM Shehbaz has already received an invitation to the dinner. Several world leaders will attend the gathering.
The reception will give the prime minister an opportunity to meet other heads of state and government during the UNGA session.
The meeting will mark the first face-to-face interaction between Shehbaz Sharif and Trump in seven months.
The two leaders last interacted after the Board of Peace meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
PM Shehbaz plans to travel to New York from London a day before the reception.
He will address the UN General Assembly on September 25.
During his UNGA address, Shehbaz Sharif will raise India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, according to the sources.
He will also refer to a recent Permanent Court of Arbitration verdict that rejected India’s contention in the dispute.
Pakistan expects the ruling to strengthen its position on the water dispute with India.

The prime minister will also highlight the Kashmir dispute.
He will present Pakistan’s position that the unresolved issue continues to threaten regional and global peace.
In addition, Shehbaz will outline Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional stability. He will also discuss Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire and an end to hostilities in the Middle East.
Shehbaz will also discuss the trilateral collective security arrangement involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.
The three countries signed the agreement in Makkah last month, according to the sources.
The prime minister will brief the international community on Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts.
He will also raise Islamabad’s concerns over what Pakistan describes as India-sponsored terrorism.
Furthermore, Shehbaz may highlight Pakistan’s allegations that militants use Afghan territory as a conduit for attacks inside Pakistan.
The prime minister plans to hold several bilateral meetings with world leaders during his New York visit.
According to the sources, he will meet Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The meeting would mark their first face-to-face interaction.
The high-level General Debate of the 81st UN General Assembly will run from September 22 to 26 at the UN headquarters in New York.
The UN Secretariat has released the speaking schedule for participating leaders.
According to the schedule cited by the sources, PM Shehbaz will deliver the fourth address during the second half of the September 25 session.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will miss the UN General Assembly for the second consecutive year, according to the schedule cited by the sources.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will address the General Assembly on September 24.
Afghanistan will rank among the final speakers on the concluding day of the session.
The UNGA will give Pakistan a major diplomatic platform to present its position on regional security, the Kashmir dispute, water tensions with India and counterterrorism.
The summit will also allow Shehbaz Sharif to engage directly with Trump and other world leaders.
His meetings could provide an opportunity to discuss Pakistan-US relations and broader regional developments.
