The official social media account of the State of Palestine has highlighted Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s remarks on Palestinian children during his address to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Shehbaz Sharif addressed the humanitarian crisis in Palestine during his speech in New York on September 25.
He spoke about the deaths of Palestinian children and condemned the continuing suffering caused by the conflict. Pakistani officials later said Palestinian representatives had applauded the prime minister’s address.
The Palestinian account shared an excerpt from Shehbaz’s speech, drawing attention to his references to Hind Rajab and eight-year-old Wafaa Akila.
During his address, Shehbaz Sharif recalled the story of Hind Rajab, a Palestinian girl whose death became a symbol of the suffering of children in Gaza.
He then referred to Wafaa Akila, who, according to the prime minister, was killed on what should have been her first day of school.

Shehbaz questioned why Palestinian children should not have the same opportunity for life, education and a future as children elsewhere in the world.
He also said the deaths of Hind Rajab, Wafaa Akila and other Palestinian children would remain a reminder of the international community’s failure to act.
The Palestinian account highlighted these remarks from the speech, bringing renewed attention to Pakistan’s position on the conflict.
Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s support for Palestinian self-determination and statehood during the UNGA address.
He said Pakistan supports the creation of an independent, sovereign, viable and contiguous Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
The prime minister also condemned Israeli actions in Gaza and the West Bank.
He called for an end to hostilities and stressed the need for a just and lasting resolution based on international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
Pakistan has continued to raise the Palestine issue at international forums, including during Shehbaz Sharif’s meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The acknowledgment by the official State of Palestine account gives added visibility to Shehbaz Sharif’s remarks about Palestinian children.
The post focused specifically on the emotional portion of his speech concerning the deaths of children and the humanitarian crisis.
Pakistan’s government has described the speech as a strong expression of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the prime minister had highlighted the stories of Hind Rajab and Wafaa Akila while presenting Pakistan’s position at the UN General Assembly.
The UNGA address also covered other major issues, including the Middle East conflict, the Strait of Hormuz, Kashmir, the Indus Waters Treaty, terrorism and global economic challenges.
The Palestinian account’s post has now brought particular focus to Pakistan’s remarks on children affected by the conflict and Islamabad’s continued diplomatic support for the Palestinian cause.
