MANCHESTER: Noman Ali will play county cricket in England for the first time after Lancashire signed the Pakistan left-arm spinner for the remainder of the 2026 County Championship season.

The 39-year-old will strengthen Lancashire’s spin department during the final six first-class matches of the campaign across August and September. Moreover, he is expected to make his debut against Northamptonshire at Emirates Old Trafford on August 20.

Lancashire secured the experienced spinner following his impressive performances for Pakistan in Test cricket, where he has established himself as one of the team’s most reliable red-ball bowlers.

Outstanding Test Record

Since making his Test debut in 2021, Noman Ali has claimed more than 100 Test wickets at an average of around 25, making him one of Pakistan’s most successful bowlers in recent years.

Furthermore, he produced career-best figures of 8-46 against England and became the first Pakistan spinner to take a Test hat-trick during a match against the West Indies in 2025.

His outstanding performances also lifted him to second place in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings after taking a 10-wicket match haul against South Africa in Lahore last year.

Excited for County Cricket

Speaking after completing the move, Noman said he was eager to experience county cricket in England for the first time.

He described the County Championship as one of the world’s leading first-class competitions and said he was looking forward to representing Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford.

Moreover, the Pakistan international praised Lancashire’s rich cricket history and said he was proud to follow in the footsteps of Pakistan fast-bowling legend Wasim Akram, who enjoyed a successful spell with the club.

Noman added that he is excited to meet his new teammates and remains determined to make a positive contribution both on and off the field.
