FUNCHAL: Ronaldo Wedding speculation intensified on Friday after reports from Portugal and the United Kingdom claimed Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez are preparing to marry in a private ceremony on the Portuguese island of Madeira, the football legend’s birthplace.

Neither Ronaldo nor Rodriguez has confirmed the wedding date or venue. However, several media outlets reported that preparations are already underway for what could become one of the year’s most high-profile celebrity weddings.

According to the reports, the couple plans to exchange vows in Funchal, Madeira’s capital, where Ronaldo spent his childhood before launching one of football’s greatest careers.

Reports Point to Madeira Ceremony

Local media claimed that Funchal Cathedral has been reserved for a major wedding ceremony on Saturday, August 8, with proceedings expected to begin at around 3:00pm.

Moreover, officials have not publicly identified the couple behind the booking. Nevertheless, several Portuguese and British reports linked the reservation to Ronaldo and Rodriguez.

The celebrations are also expected to continue at the luxury Savoy Palace Hotel in Funchal. Reports said guests had been informed that two hotel floors and several bar areas would remain closed for a private event throughout Friday and Saturday.

So far, neither the hotel nor representatives for the couple have confirmed those reports.

Madeira Holds Special Meaning

Madeira has remained closely connected to Ronaldo throughout his career. The island is home to the Cristiano Ronaldo Museum, a statue honouring the football icon and Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport, which bears his name.

Therefore, choosing Madeira as the venue would hold deep personal significance for the Portugal captain.

Ronaldo and Rodriguez began their relationship in 2016 after meeting in Madrid, where Rodriguez worked in luxury retail. Since then, they have built a family together and frequently appeared at sporting events and public engagements around the world.

The couple became engaged in August 2025 after Ronaldo proposed following nearly a decade together.

Furthermore, speculation increased in recent weeks when photographers captured the pair wearing prominent diamond rings while boarding a yacht during a holiday in Majorca.

Ronaldo has previously said he hoped to marry Rodriguez after completing a major stage of his international football career.
