National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has enabled digital passport fee collections through Raast Person-to-Merchant (P2M) QR, allowing citizens to pay passport fees through the mobile applications of participating banks.
The initiative marks another step in NBP’s digital transformation. At the same time, it supports the Government of Pakistan’s broader Cashless Pakistan agenda.
The government aims to expand digital payments and accelerate the digitisation of public-sector payments and receipts. As a result, the new payment facility could make passport fee collections more convenient for citizens.
To review the implementation, Director General Immigration & Passports Ch. Muhammad Ali Randhawa and his team visited NBP Head Office in Karachi.
During the visit, the delegation met senior NBP officials, including Abdul Wahid Sethi, SEVP and Group Chief/CFO, Financial Control Group.
The meeting also included Faisal Topra, SEVP and Group Chief, Operations Group, and Adnan Nasir, CDO and Group Chief, Digital Banking Group.

In addition, senior officials from NBP’s Digital Banking and Operations teams participated in the engagement.
The meeting reviewed the performance of NBP’s Raast-based cashless passport fee payment solution.
Meanwhile, both sides explored further options to expand digital payment facilities. One option under discussion is a PSID-based alternate payment mechanism.
The proposed mechanism could provide an additional payment channel. Therefore, it may help improve convenience while ensuring continuity of passport fee collections.
The discussions also focused on strengthening digital payment infrastructure for government-related services.
Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Wahid Sethi said digital transformation can help make public services more accessible and efficient.
“At NBP, we see digital transformation as an important enabler of more accessible, efficient and customer-centric public services,” Sethi said.
He added that NBP remains committed to supporting the government’s digital payments and cashless economy agenda.
Furthermore, he said the bank aims to use technology to make financial services simpler and more accessible for citizens.
The Director General Immigration & Passports appreciated NBP’s efforts and collaboration. He also acknowledged the bank’s role in advancing digital transformation and improving public service delivery.
The successful implementation strengthens NBP’s role in enabling interoperable digital payments.
In particular, the Raast P2M QR facility supports the modernisation of government-related collections.
Raast is Pakistan’s instant payment system. It enables digital payments across individuals, businesses and government entities.
Ultimately, the initiative reflects the country’s wider shift towards digital payments. It also supports efforts to reduce reliance on cash for government services.
As digital payment options expand, solutions such as Raast P2M QR can provide citizens with faster and more convenient ways to complete essential government payments.
