KARACHI, September 26, 2026: TV host Nadia Khan has faced criticism over her recent interview with Pakistani designer Parishae Adnan.
Parishae appeared on Rise and Shine, co-hosted by Nadia Khan and Zohaib Hassan on 365 News, after presenting her collection Second Skin at New York Fashion Week.
She closed Flying Solo’s showcase on September 13 with an eight-look collection built around archival garments and deadstock textiles. The collection explored reconstruction, craftsmanship and the reuse of existing clothing.
However, viewers noted that much of the interview focused on Parishae’s appearance, gym videos and personal choices.
The discussion prompted criticism on social media, with some viewers arguing that more attention could have been given to her fashion work and NYFW achievement.
During the interview, Khan asked Parishae about the clothes she wears in her gym videos.
She also asked whether criticism of the videos affected her parents.
Parishae responded by explaining why she continues to share her fitness journey.
She said safety was a concern but added that messages from women and other followers motivated her to continue.
According to Parishae, some people told her that her fitness content encouraged them to begin strength training.
She also said she had lacked similar representation while growing up.
The discussion later returned to clothing, self-expression and personal boundaries.
Parishae argued that people should not be defined by a single aspect of their appearance or personality.
She described humans as multifaceted and said clothing, fitness and other interests could all form part of a person’s identity.
Parishae also addressed questions about how she dresses.
She said fashion was one form of self-expression and rejected the idea that a person’s appearance should define them.
She described herself as having been rebellious while growing up.
She also stressed that she considers herself a religious person.
The conversation then moved towards whether boundaries could be defined universally.
Parishae said boundaries can differ from one person to another and compared the issue with the subjective nature of art.
Parishae also discussed her background as the daughter of designers Amir Adnan and Huma Adnan.
She said neither parent had pressured her to pursue fashion as a career.
According to Parishae, she explored several fields before returning to the family fashion business.
She said her experience in consulting, business, hospitality, management and healthcare eventually changed her perspective on fashion.
Parishae also addressed the term “nepo-baby”.
She compared children entering family businesses with the traditional concept of apprentices learning from previous generations.
She said growing up around clothing and sewing gave her an early connection to fashion, but she did not consider her career simply handed to her.
During the interview, Parishae also discussed the technical side of fashion.
She said conversations about creative work in Pakistan often focus on personalities and appearances rather than craft.
She pointed to areas such as stitching, movement, structure and construction as important parts of a designer’s work.
Her comments came after her Second Skin collection received attention at New York Fashion Week.
The collection used archival menswear, bridalwear and deadstock textiles. It included garments connected to her family’s fashion history and reworked existing materials through reconstruction and embroidery.

Parishae said the concept behind Second Skin was not entirely new.
She explained that she had presented similar work in Pakistan in 2020.
According to the designer, that earlier project also explored the reuse of existing clothing and similar design principles.
She said the concept faced criticism at the time because some people were unfamiliar with reusing old garments as part of a fashion collection.
Parishae connected the approach with the growing interest in thrifting and sustainable fashion among younger consumers.
The interview later became a subject of discussion across social media.
Parishae shared clips from the exchange, while her mother, Huma Adnan, described the questions as “uncalled for”.
Several entertainment figures also commented on the interview.
Actress Anika Zulfiqar questioned the choice of topics and suggested that more research could have been done before the interview. Other celebrities also expressed support for Parishae’s responses.
The debate has largely centred on the contrast between Parishae’s international fashion achievement and the personal nature of some of the questions discussed during the programme.
Parishae, meanwhile, used the conversation to explain her views on self-expression, fitness, sustainability and the technical side of fashion.
Her Second Skin collection marked her appearance at Flying Solo’s New York Fashion Week showcase, where she presented a collection built around the transformation of existing garments and the preservation of fashion heritage.
