Litton Das Sets Test Cricket Record with Nine Dismissals and Twin Half-Century, Century

Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das made history on Tuesday by recording nine dismissals behind the stumps while scoring a half-century and a century in the same Test match.

Litton surpassed South Africa’s Denis Lindsay, who recorded eight dismissals and scored more than 50 runs in both innings against Australia in Johannesburg in 1966.

Litton set the new record after taking a catch to dismiss Afghanistan batter Ikram Alikhil. The wicketkeeper produced a diving, one-handed catch off Ebadot Hossain just before lunch. Alikhil scored 33 runs.

Litton Closes in on Overall Test Dismissal Record

Litton could also challenge the record for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in a single Test match.

England’s Jack Russell, South Africa’s AB de Villiers and India’s Rishabh Pant share the record with 11 dismissals each. Litton needs two more dismissals to equal the mark and three to break it.

His performance behind the stumps has included several impressive catches and stumpings, strengthening Bangladesh’s position in the match.

Litton’s Century Helps Bangladesh Set 479-Run Target

Litton also delivered a strong performance with the bat. He scored 53 in the first innings and 102 in the second, helping Bangladesh build a commanding lead.

Bangladesh declared their second innings at 372-7, setting Afghanistan a target of 479 runs after establishing an overall lead of 478.

Afghanistan Reach 208-4 in Fourth Innings

Afghanistan reached 208-4 after 85.2 overs in their second innings at Zayed Cricket Stadium, leaving them with a difficult task to reach the target.

Sediqullah Atal remained unbeaten on 70 from 235 deliveries, hitting three fours and three sixes. Rahmat Shah scored 51 before Ebadot Hossain dismissed him.

Ebadot claimed three wickets, while Shahidullah contributed 19 runs. Ikram Alikhil added 33 before his dismissal.

Hashmatullah Shahidi retired hurt on 20, while Ismat Alam remained unbeaten on nought. Bangladesh continued to push for the remaining wickets as Afghanistan faced a substantial fourth-innings challenge.
