TEHRAN: Iran is finalising its response to US comments on a proposal Tehran presented in New York, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said on Monday night.
Speaking to Al Arabiya, Gharibabadi said Iran remained open to diplomatic efforts while maintaining its readiness to defend itself, according to Press TV.
He said Tehran would convey its final position through mediators after completing consultations.
“Tehran remains ready for diplomacy, provided that what is raised is realistic,” Gharibabadi said.
He added that Iran’s readiness to defend itself was no less than its willingness to negotiate. He also called on Washington to honour its commitments.
Gharibabadi maintained that Iran had not violated its obligations. He accused the United States of failing to fulfil its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
“As long as the American side has completely disregarded all of its commitments, Iran cannot be expected to show further flexibility,” he said.
The remarks come amid continued diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between Washington and Tehran. However, disagreements over security and navigation in the Strait of Hormuz have complicated efforts to reach an agreement.
US President Donald Trump said he did not believe China or Russia was providing significant assistance to Iran.
Responding to claims that Beijing and Moscow were helping Tehran, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that any assistance would be limited.
“If they are, it’s at a very low level, but I don’t believe they are at all,” he said.
Trump argued that both countries had too much to lose by becoming involved. He also referred to earlier discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin about weapons supplies to Iran.
Meanwhile, the United States has previously sanctioned Chinese companies accused of supporting Iran’s military procurement network. Beijing has denied allegations that Chinese entities assisted Iran’s military.

Iranian officials are also pursuing the case of Iranian pilots reportedly missing in Qatar.
An Iranian government spokesperson said the country’s defence and foreign ministries were following up on the matter, according to the Iranian news agency ISNA.
The spokesperson said Qatar had pledged assistance and expressed readiness to cooperate in clarifying the pilots’ status.
The pilots have reportedly been missing since the early stages of the US-Israel war against Iran.
The spokesperson also addressed internet restrictions in Tehran. The official said authorities might reduce internet speeds at times because the conflict had not fully ended.
Separately, British authorities have investigated an alleged plot targeting RAF Fairford, an air base in southwest England that has been used by US bombers involved in operations against Iran.
British officials have alleged that Iran may have directed the suspected plot. Tehran has denied involvement and called on the UK to provide evidence supporting its accusations.
Five British men were arrested near the base in September on suspicion of terrorism and explosives-related offences. They were later released on police bail without charge, according to the supplied report.
Investigators reportedly found petrol but no viable explosive in vans seized during the investigation. Authorities have continued examining whether a foreign state played a role.
British officials have also threatened further measures against Iran and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Tehran has repeatedly rejected allegations linking it to hostile operations abroad.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called for accountability over environmental damage caused by military aggression.
According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Araghchi made the remarks in connection with the international conference titled “Ecocide: The Silent War Crime.”
He argued that environmental destruction during armed conflict has consequences beyond the battlefield.
” We will neither forgive nor forget!” Araghchi wrote, reiterating his call for accountability.
