The Los Angeles Lakers have assigned Bronny James to their G League affiliate, the Coachella Valley Lakers. His return to the NBA roster remains uncertain.
The Lakers made the move on Thursday, November 5, also assigning rookie guard Cameron Carr to the developmental team.
The 22-year-old has struggled to secure regular playing time during the Lakers’ 2026-27 season. He has appeared in five games, playing a total of 12 minutes and scoring four points.
The Lakers have started the season with a 7-2 record, leaving limited opportunities for James to feature.
This is the first season Bronny has played for the Lakers without his father, LeBron James, on the roster.
LeBron left Los Angeles after eight seasons and joined the Philadelphia 76ers as a free agent in July 2026.

The Lakers retained Bronny in October despite waiving Dalton Knecht, their 2024 first-round draft pick.
Bronny is in his third NBA season after Los Angeles selected him 55th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft. He played college basketball at the University of Southern California.
Head coach JJ Redick had raised concerns about his preseason performance. James shot 25% from the field, making four of 16 attempts across five preseason games.
Redick said last month: “I thought he had a really nice September and a good summer with us, but I don’t think he’s played well in the four preseason games.”
Despite limited NBA opportunities, James has produced stronger numbers in the G League. He averaged 18.4 points and 4.4 assists per game over the past two seasons.
James has a guaranteed contract through the 2026-27 season, with a team option for 2027-28, according to the supplied report.
The Coachella Valley Lakers are scheduled to open their season against the Salt Lake City Stars on Friday, November 6. However, it remains unclear whether James will feature in the game.
His assignment provides an opportunity for more playing time as he continues developing his game.
