Kenan Thompson is returning to America’s Got Talent as a guest judge, stepping in for Simon Cowell during the third episode of the show’s live Quarterfinals Round 3 on September 1.
Thompson will join Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara on the judging panel. Meanwhile, Terry Crews will continue to host the competition.
Cowell, who created the series and serves as an executive producer, will take a temporary break from the programme while he recovers from back surgery.
The comedy star previously joined America’s Got Talent as a guest judge in 2020. He appeared alongside Klum, Mandel and Vergara during the live quarterfinals that season.
At the time, Thompson became the second guest judge to replace Cowell. Kelly Clarkson had taken the seat earlier in the season.
