Los Angeles, August 12, 2026: Keen Ruffalo is building his own acting career with a leading role in Prime Video’s coming-of-age drama Sterling Point, taking a different route into Hollywood despite being the son of acclaimed actor Mark Ruffalo.
The 25-year-old actor plays Connor in the series, which follows a teenager who unexpectedly inherits an island from a grandfather he never knew.
Despite growing up around the film industry, Keen did not initially plan to become an actor.
Born in June 2001, Keen is the eldest child of Mark Ruffalo and Sunrise Coigney. He grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Callicoon, New York.
Keen had already appeared in several of his father’s projects before landing his latest role. His early credits include appearances in Begin Again and Thor: Ragnarok.
He also appeared in his father’s television projects Task and Hal & Harper in 2025.
However, Keen first pursued a different career. He enrolled at Drexel University to study fashion design but left during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He later discovered a stronger interest in acting and began studying the craft while performing in theatre.
His journey into professional acting has not relied solely on his famous family name. Keen said his father encouraged him and his siblings to earn opportunities rather than expect them.
“My dad didn’t want to hand me or my siblings anything, because it’s just not how he was raised,” Keen told Cultured.
That approach shaped Keen’s early career as he went through more than 100 auditions before securing the role in Sterling Point.
The actor admitted that he did not expect to land the part.
“I definitely did not expect it,” Keen told WWD. He recalled that his parents were also surprised by the outcome, with his father joking about how unexpected the casting decision was.
The role represents a significant step for Keen Ruffalo as he begins establishing an identity separate from his father’s celebrated career.
Keen is also set to appear in Nimrods, a road-trip comedy inspired by the music of Green Day. The film is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on August 14.

Looking ahead, Keen plans to continue auditioning and may return to education to study acting more formally.
His father has also offered a realistic view of the profession. Mark Ruffalo has described acting as a career built around “suffering” and repeated auditions.
Keen agrees that auditions form a major part of the job.
“That’s obviously most of what the job is,” he said.
With Sterling Point and Nimrods adding to his growing credits, Keen is now beginning to carve out his own place in the entertainment industry.
